In 1985 I was 14 when I watched the TdF... I was blown away. 2 years later, I bought my first racing bike and did my first race. 35 years later I sit watching this drinking coffee and waiting for the sun to rise so I can ride.

Hinault's trechery was unbecoming of a champ. 5 tour wins and the betrayal is all he deserves to be remembered for.

Great two part series, in my books these three riders are my favourites of all time 👍🚴🚴

Rick Van Steenbergen is my favorite rider. A track star in Europe he won 700 track races. Became a road racer in his 30s and road at the front. He was a natural born cyclist, he could ride any sort of bicycle anywhere.

Thanks for putting this together. I very much enjoyed how it gave me more insight to this rivalry.

Fantastic job, a different story than most of us read in the magazines back then. It was a great time in cycling, I sure regret the wasted time spent at college, I should have focused on riding . who knows at that age....

I have now, and always will state.... Hinault won 4 Tours, and was gifted his 5th. Imagine what Greg would have done if the hunting accident hadn't happened.

✊🏾🔥Agreed!…LeMonster Would have won from 1985 til 1991… Had the accident not happened … We Can Only Wonder…👊🏾

He certainly would have won a 4th Tour. Maybe a 5th as well.

Esa adrenalina que produce admirar las proezas de estos campeones, no se vive con el ciclismo actual

It’s a huge possibility that Greg LeMond would have been a 5 time TDF winner, but for the shooting accident.

Was Bernard Tapie the owner of Marseille football club by the time of the 1985 TDF??

Non-finish sprints.

Intermediate sprints along the way. They had their own points. They were known as Catch Sprints for the Sponsor “Catch”…which I believe was a pesticide.

Lemond should have taken as many time as he could on Hinauld on the Alpe d'Huez stage instead of cycling with him towards the top.

Who the fuck is Vandergarden?
@freebooterracingco.24402 жыл бұрын
Either a possibly mispronounced Belgian guy named Vanderaerden or a time traveling dude from Washington.
