Yeah, but you have no range, and if you're not ahead you're useless. You can't really catch up to anyone in late unless they want to take the fight or you use walls. You're easy to poke and to kyte, and CC wrecks you. What outscales riven you ask ? Range and cc, and most decently scaling champs. She might be a good duelist and be able to hold her ground against most of those, or even beat them sometimes, but she doesn't have the same splipush, siege, map control, burst, mobility, kill picking (like any assassin or high mobility champ with burst like fiora, irelia, yas, yone, tf...), kill chaining (like yi, fiora, jinx...) or teamfight power, and needs to meet one hard condition to be any usefull at all : be ahead. Otherwise, she's just a struggling meatshield. Riven needs to be ahead to have an average 50/50 win chance. Most toplaners have an average 50/50 win chance if they're behind as long as they havn't completely inted, because they have at least several of the tools mentionned above to compensate for dueling. A malphite, even in 0/5, is still very usefull, solely because of his R and the threat it represents for the opposing team, and he's also very tanky. Riven mainly has dueling, and not much else that she's really better at than other champs. If she's not ahead, she's quickly out of options to have any impact.
