Waimea river runs into Waimea Bay on the north shore on Oahu in “winter” and nobody needs to encourage it. It just happens. It’s a weird endless wave of freshwater meeting salt. Very few people bother surfing that since winter on the north shore is the most epic in the world. And in summer, the North Shore is like a duck pond.

Awesome video i actually know this wave you guys would like to go surf body board skim board or body surf an film its called Linda lane its south of the San Clemente pier and north of 204 and there is a tunnel form the parking lot i surf there a lot when there is a good combo swell it is good, it barrels like almost every morning no matter the size and the waves are like jello slabs, the biggest its gets is 4 to 6 then its starts closing out but when your there in the water there is like a wave that breaks way out and it kind of looks like a outer reef of some sort its called like west reef but when your there you will see it and know what I'm talking about just recommending you guys surf and maybe film there its good all year round, but love the work and love the videos and i met you guys once i think it was a t street 2022 it was 6 to 8 foot waves i was wearing a black gath helmet and i had a catch surf crowed killer that was black and was 7'2 and if you remember then hi again.

The river is coming from the bridge to the beach. So this would happen anyway. Dont make a big deal out of it. High tide restores the dunes and then when low tide is there the dune overflows and the sand gets swepped away

It happens after extreme high tides and even will do it naturally then replenishes the next day for full high tide cycle

Its not illegal, here or in this case. Its when high tide comes this ocean water gets stuck there. And these guys do it all the time. If they didn't, the city would have to, so they dont mind. One less thing for them. In one of their videos, you'll see a city worker releasing it while they stand there and wait for it.

I don’t think people get how this would happen naturally. Due to erosion and extreme high tides, the water would breach anyway, creating a gaping new hole to throw out the excess rainwater that would’ve DESTROYED INFRASTRUCTURE.

Explanation: Its actually extra flood water that will eventually overflow and cause property damage. To stop that , they drained the river flood water to the ocean and it fills naturally after a year due to rain water continuously building up. They were only speeding up the process and this does happen naturally. (ps they do this every year)
