I always buy my rod license every year without fail, but what puts me off fishing is all these fishing clubs ! I am thinking of jacking fishing in after 25 years. The fun of it all has had its arse ripped out of it by control freaks and bullies ! It makes you sick to the bottom of your stumack to have seen fishing turn into a power grab. And we wonder why teens have nothing to do but go round taking drugs and getting pregnant. We only have to look at non Western countries to see how they fish, we are really up are own arses, shame on us !

River swaine mate is quite fair to be honest I'm too the same i dont like fishing river because of these clubs but the swaine costs 5 quid a day which isn't too bad compared to everywhere else I mainly stick to private lakes

Buy a licence and permit if needed whats the problem ? Fishing is full of mongs. Unfortunately if you fish you come across them. Remote river swim = bliss

Its very difficult to encourage young teenagers to enjoy fishing when they are from one parent families or parents who may be long term ill. Fishing is not cheap, Bait, tackle, Rod License, Day ticket. Mum or dad barely have enough money to feed them and each case should be dealt with differently.

I've never understood why the minority will spend hundreds of pounds on fishing gear, but not £30 for the Trout and Coarse annual licence, that covers the whole of England and Wales. Keep it up Angling Authorities, Clubs and Police. Nice one!

I have a fishing license because what's the point in arguing with a bunch of uneducated sheep, it's ridiculous we have to pay to fish on land that should be free for all the only fair play thing is the restrictions on the fish you can take to maintain levels, yet trawlers over fish the seas, cause over 50 percent of plastic pollution, waste so much fish they kill and throw away or kill on the sea with their fishing tactics or with the plastic it goes on, not to mention slave labour on the boats and so on.... But you're a criminal if you fish in your local river. Fuck of you moralists. No one has any foresight or even the intellectual prowess to even bother educating themselves on how it all "works". Power crazy irrational human bullshit.

I got stopped a few years ago fishing in between Avenham Park tram bridge and the river Darwen but they had to let me off because I was well bellow the tidal point.

The most damage done to the Ribble & Irwel was done by petrol service station letting pollution into the rivers .

Rather than calling police, why didn’t they ask the lads if they wanted to join, maybe on some cheap junior membership. So rather than demonising them instead engage and get them involved.

Hi Phil, these were not young anglers. They were men. The issue was taking fish in the closed season. They were educated and dealt with fairly. The police were not called. It was a joint operation visit and it just happened to be this group of anglers were caught during a snap visit in the closed season. I've fished the ribble since the mid 70s and was watching as barbel where illegally brought up from the river seven, but why not ask them to be members one side as at least now a 3yr waiting list and the side they was cought on, did you see the sign if you didn't they couldn't have, I'd like to see if they got court dates and if they appeared you heard part of the conversation explaining fishing illegally and taking them out, I wouldn't want members in my club who can legally take so many to eat,probably bullshit names and being landlocked the polish are experts not even with a rod,so do you need a rod license if you're not using one and that was a one off, if a poacher I cought with a club bailiff and just laughed, do you think the cavalry will come, not a chance, in like I said fished for 40yrs and luckily no joking an handful and fished 3 midweek days ever week if not me we had a group of 6 so atleast a pair if not the full, mainly For showing aggression because what is one law enforcer going to do not even coming before the environment agency came the national river authority code and mainly took your tackle so false names brought tackle sales that money went towards the river authority. So don't let that rural police van are on the river every weekend a month first time in 40yrs, they spend their time on commercial for the money or wye and seven for nothing but cash

Licences are not that exspencive so if you poach and get caught tough no sympathy but if young lads yes try and engage them When I lived at home I used to go watching next door neighbour fly-fishing he was good but rod and pole fir me I can't fly fish fir toffee Any way Tony's brother was a balif on the river lune he was shot at regular he also said some of the horrible methods they used He said they would net the river and dump cyanide in who the hell would buy that it's a wonder folk didn't die they probably didn't know what they were eating Also another method they used again nett the river off down stream of course and throw.grenades in and the blast would bring the salmon up

These people never want to join. They want the illegally caught fish for nothing. An Eastern European poaching gang stole half our stock fish last year. £20K worth of fish and sold them for peanuts. Fine them and deport them after photographing them and taking their DNA so they cant come back on the next boat

Sadly Age and Chronic Arthritis has made it almost impossible now , Would be great to see you try out a small stretch called The Cherry Tree which is about 400m down stream of the Darwen and 150m before Old Tram Bridge , Steep banks but worth the challenge 10' deep channel 1.5 rod lengths out

unfortunately these were men fishing in the closed season with no rod license using methods not permitted. They were educated by the authorities and respectfully treated as they couldn’t speak English. I was impressed with the level of professionalism used by the Rural police

Get shut of em! I buy a rod license every year and various permits. I always go and visit on foot a new venue and make absolutely sure it's the water covered by my permit. I leave nothing to chance. I spend hundreds of pounds on tackle, I'm sure I can buy the relevant permits to fish 👍
