You must understand that River and the Doctor have their own separate non-linear timelines. Say 11 has tea with River on Sunday, while years later 13 decides he'll double back and take River dancing on that Monday night. River then bumps into 10 on Asgard on Tuesday. . . see where I'm leading? After Sunday's tea, 11 may meet up with River on that following Friday. 11 will only remember his experiences on Sunday and Tuesday, but River will have spent the whole week with various Doctors.

@thefartydoctor She's actually quite motherly toward Amy. Maybe that's the only clue Moffat wanted to give. I don't know how River would be able to show a child's affection toward her mother, when her mother was over half her age. Mothering your mother may seem odd, but this is really more of a relationship between strangers. . . that said, there's a scene that was shot for Series 6 ep13 that takes place just after Byzantium. River & Amy have a reunion then.

To be fair, she could always go through old newspapers and stuff and find his faces - she doesn't necessarily have to know the order the regenerations go in. She has no idea how far back in his timeline he knows her, so she should keep every face she can find, just in case.

@trangt Regeneration isn't a death, it's just a change of face. It has no impact on the timeline. Nothing is wiped out. Every moment in time exists at once. 10 & Martha watched the moon landing in 1969, and 11 & Amy also watched the moon landing in 1969. At the exact same moment. Future, past and present can exist simultaneously in Doctor Who's concept of time travel. We've even had adventures with 5 different regenerations. . .

River Song was referring to future regenerations of the Doctor, not past. Ten is the youngest Doctor she's met, so when she talks all the Doctor's different faces (never showing up in the right order!), she is in fact referring to 10, 11, 12, 13. . . etc.

I *highly* doubt River ever knew her parents growing up. She probably doesn't have a strong connection to them, so being in a situation where they've no idea who she is, isn't altogether distressing. I think only the Doctor has ever truly been there for her.

The Doctor she saw before 10 was 12 at the Singing Towers (end of The Husbands of River Song I think), so she could have thought that Tennant was after Capaldi and was a new face to add to the list. Byzantium and Picnic (this one is in a novel) were both during 11th Doctor thats why she asked about them to try and figure it out.

So from her point of view,since she dies in the library, this was the second time she met with 10 it wasn't a new face for her . She knew who he was she just realise that for him they haven't met yet ,plus she knew that when the day comes that the Doctor could not recognise her is the day she is going to die, that doesn't mean it's gonna happen when she also sees a face of him for the first time . The only thing that is confusing is why after 10 met her his next regenarations could remember her while his previous couldn't. In the diary of River audio series she spents a lot of time with the previous regenerations . River wasn't meant to appear for more than 3 times in the show but then Moffat changed his mind and I think this is why Rivers timeline has some holes , when they made the episode in the library they weren't planning her story to be like this

It is just that I am suprise that many Doctors can exist at the same time. I understand the time-travel thing, but I just that once a Doctor die, he is wiped out of the whole time-continuum. But then again, like you said, River could meet future-Doctors, so there is no stopping her from seing past-Doctors. I get it, but I also just don't get it. It is such a paradox in my head, thats all.

so the TARDIS does have breaks XD only that those breaks stabilaze it thus prevent the noise and since the doctor and many other timelords tend to manually fly their TARDISes they dont use the breaks and that explain the noise when it land.. maybe it also effect the takeoff noise?

I don't understand how is it that she met the 11th Doctor before she meets the 10th (Library episode). The Doctor could time travel to future and past but there can't be more than one Doctor at a time. The Doctor only have one timeline in his head. So when River Song met the 11th Doctor, that means that the 10th must be dead already. Because the 11th Doctor can't exists without the 10th being already dead. If she is to meet other Doctors, she should meet them in order, 11, 12, 13, and so forth.
