I'm an artifact hunter and I once found a Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm wrapped up in a flannel shirt and thrown into a river. I called the non emergency number and waited for police to arrive for 2 hours. They never came, so I went home. At 3 AM I wake up to cops pounding on my house door looking for the gun. When I opened the door they had their weapons unholstered and in hand. They treated me like a suspect, tried to gain entry to my home without warrant. Tried to question me about why I had the gun. Never again will I ever call the cops on a find of that nature.

I mean if you're outside the US, pretty much anywhere, you'd be illegally owning a gun. If you're inside the US, you're allowed to own a gun, right? If I were to find a gun, I pretty much wouldn't even be allowed to touch it without professional supervision. Owning a gun here is downright illegal without a permit, and requires proper certified storage, a clean criminal file, and a yearly check.

Tucson actually had a big lawsuit against it. The Law states: "Notwithstanding subsection A of this section, if the property is a firearm, the court shall order the firearm to be sold AGENCY SHALL SELL THE FIREARM to any business that is authorized to receive and dispose of the firearm under federal and state law and that shall sell the firearm to the public according to federal and state law, unless the firearm is otherwise prohibited from being sold under federal and state law.� A law enforcement agency may trade a firearm that it has retained to a federal firearms licensed business for ammunition, weapons, equipment or other materials to be exclusively used for law enforcement purposes." I reported two weapons missing when my car was towed in WV. The car went to the crusher. The tow yard owner told me they were turned into the cops to be destroyed. About a year later a friend of mine (navy recruiter, I was a Marine recruiter) told me he was shooting with a local cop friend and the cop told him he picked the guns up from a local tow yard from a car that went to the crusher. I had told the navy recruiter the story before and he came back and told me the type of weapons the cop had and they were all mine. That gun went from that cops hands to his personal vehicle when he went back to the station.

Dallas, you should kept the gun...back in the day...I mean 80's on back. You could turn stuff in...ie guns and money and you would get it back after 90 days or so. I'm each state laws are a little different. But basically the same. When I was 14, i found a wallet with no name it. Parents told me to do the right thing and maybe I would get it back...well, I did. 100.00 to my name..Then move to 4 months ago. Did the same thing. Called and I was told they don't give money back, it goes in to some police fund for them. That to me is theft on there part. They are not the ones that found it and did the work.The police now days are setting very bad examples to the public. They are not honest and they not trustworthy, and they wonder why the public dislikes them so much. They are getting just as bad thieves. Well you did the right thing checking on the gun. You could have easily checked on the internet also. But odds are - you just gave away a $900. gun. I do not know how it works in your state: but in Oregon, you lose a gun and report it stolen, you need to come in once a year and report it stolen or they drop it from the reported stolen list. So, what I guess I am saying is, don't let them forget about you. It is your gun, unless the owner claims it.

never return ANY found property to any authorities it WILL be destroyed especially firearms, whoever lost a firearm in the first place should not be aloud to have one in the first place; to add to the relinquishing any finds in the first place is a bad idea, because you get screwed either way, one is just LESS screwed but one that can be avoided. I found a beautiful expensive ring on one of our beaches here in Perth WA. I turned it in but gave them the wrong beach name. After three months, if no one collects the item it's mine to keep. So anyway, three months pass and I hear nothing so I went in personally to pick up the ring because it had to be there right? Wrong!!! I was told it had been claimed the week before, so I asked for the persons details and was told that they don't give out the details. I then told the officer on duty that I had given the wrong beach name by mistake and that the ring was actually found at a different beach. The officer went a bright red, then composed himself and said "ITS BEEN CLAIMED" very loudly. I am a 66 year old man and don't take this sort of thing lying down, so I told the officer I was going to go to a radio station and tell them the story. I got a call the following day saying that the ring had been stored in the wrong place (if you believe that fairy tail you'll believe anything) so I picked up my ring and eventually sold it for $$3,500:00 which paid for my next detector. Now if I find anything expensive I put it on Gumtree (free advertising) for a couple of months. It's not going back to the cops, that's for sure..

Dude love your channel. I love what you do. I use to fix small electronics as a hobby and purchased tons of water damaged items. In most cases its the power supply ( battery ) that is damaged. You can soke these electronics in isopropyl alcohol and replace batteries and 90% will work again. The fact your return stuff says alot about you. My five year old wants us to do this after watching your videos with me

It's required by law to report a missing/stolen firearm which means you have to give them the serial number . The problem with gun registration is that if firearms were to be banned now it's alot easier to confiscate them.

This is an answer from a misinformed person here. Ignorance might I say. Not true at all at all sir. Each state laws will be a little different. Worse case is you will have the gun taken away and fined , end up with a possible investigation for whatever or however the story turns out. If you ever do this and you get arrested then get you a good lawyer and you will be a wealthy man. Not rich but you get the point. There is no law that will rightfully cause you to be imprisoned for not reporting a firearm that you found that was unknowingly used in a crime. Now if you knew it and kept it, it would cause you more trouble but not prison. So here's some advice. when you find one don't go around advertising it. And don't be doing anything to get in trouble with the police. Also In this case, he has video proof. ;) Too many people in this county are misinformed about firearms and make ignorant comments like this. Thanks
