You notice the red thread was to make it look like it's bleeding. Thus is to make prey aka the lure to look injured and draw in fish. The extra part was likely added to make it have the twitch more and from angle it sits it would likely make it jerk some to one side like a hurt fish :)

Riley Mass Minnesota fishing is sort of like Wisconsin fishing, we both have huge and good fighting fish, I use 30 lb braid and it never breaks/snapped by a fish, and try to use steel leaders they are very good
