She tends to sing with a Scottish accent, which is to say, a relic from the Scot’s English dialect, which was an offshoot of Middle English. Basically, Scots is slightly closer to Shakespeare’s English than modern, and the accent which comes from that leads to many words not being pronounced quite like one would expect. But this is the charm of accents! Another point; “correct” vocal technic requires most singers today to be trained using Bel Canto, which is an Italian system, and it leads to trained singers prioritising vowel shapes over word intelligibility. So, really, with these combined factors it isn’t her fault you can’t understand her, but honestly most people just look at the lyrics/text for a song, any song, whilst listening.
