"Wish upon a silver cloud, crawling across the moonbeams" is a symbolism for a situation that was impossible. Wishing on a silver cloud was useless because what can a silver cloud do? It was just superstition. Crawling across moonbeams is also impossible as you cannot pass through light. "Race across the old bonfire, trample on my heartbeat," implied they were friends. But, it hurt him everytime they were together. (As for this case, as they play around the bonfire, she was also trampling his heartbeat, hurting him emotionally." 2nd stanza implies that he wants to confess his love but he can't speak about it, because it was too late. "I love you with a fire, ablazing til time ends. But what good is a heart when it shudders to speak? I guess it's late now." Chorus: I wanted to turn you on (The guy just wanted to be with the girl) My favorite song (A play of words to match with the first phrase, but this obviously means he loves her as she is his favorite song) Wanted to be near you but somebody owns you now (No need to expand.
