Meaning a lot of people on their way home from work were caught in the middle of the storm. Or unable to be more prepared for evacuations. They are very upset at Carlos Mazon. (The president of the Valencian Goverment)

@@Jahn_Pah_JonzI'm Spanish and I can tell that the ones that are ruling Valencia are Partido Popular. Since their are in power there have been cutting taxes at the cost of destroying the emergency system. AEMET told the local government ours prior but they didn't decree anything until it was to late. This is why being a lone prepper, or a single prepper family, will not work. You have to get _everyone_ involved. You have to convince your friends and neighbors to engage in prepping, just like you. Not guns and ammo, but supplies. Food, bottled fuel, medicine, clothing and other items. That way, if one household loses everything, someone else will have something to share. This is what people USED to do, a mere 80 years ago! Everyone had a pantry, everyone did home canning, everyone had _something_ to pitch in and help. There are many things from the past that we do not need to bring back, like racism and war. But creating networks, getting to know your neighbors and working together is something that should, and *must* be brought back.

The long-term economic impact is troublesome. The Paiporta area is a blue-collar hard hard-working community about nine miles outside of the Valencia city center. Many of these homes are inherited from previous generations and since the salaries in Spain are so low, it would be very hard for them to afford or find another place to live. Homeowners insurance is not legally required in Spain if you own your home free and clear; however, if you have a mortgage, yes, you are required to have it. Pray for the Valencian Community, they are hardworking, proud of their traditions and culture, and love their city. This is an unimaginable loss of lives and livelihood. #ValenciaStrong.

Politics has nothing to do with it. This is the effect of Global Warming. My question to Spaniards is how are you going to fix the problem so it does not happen again?!?! This is 1957 (La Riada) all over again. Spanish civil engineering needs to come up with a plan to yet again divert the Turia River away from the outlining cities. The flood saved the Valencia city center but not the outlining city limits. Paiporta is only nine miles outside of the city center.
