I am straight up cackling. I can't with this song, it's so funny to me and peoples reactions to this song are so funny. But in all seriousness, in my opinion people are bothered by this because they are women rapping about it. People aren't as bothered by this kind of thing if it is men rapping about it. Men can sing and rap about sex and excessively sexual things and acts, but women can't. Beyonce got flamed for partition, even though it was more sensual then straight raunchy sexy. But I agree with Dizz on the portrail of black women and understand why he is bothered by it, but as a woman I like these kinds of runchy songs with straight up sex lyrics. Singing about what I like in bed and how I want to be treated in a sexual scenario.

Have you ever seen a bunch of half naked male rappers being all seductive in their videos? I don't think so and this is the difference. While people say that what these rappers did is empowering, I highly doubt that. It just objectifies women more than they already are and it pushes this highly sexist industry that uses women as plastic dolls that men all over the world can jerk off to.

If you don’t believe me, tell me one black R&B male that people did not assume was gay at some point or another simply because he could sing and dance. THIS! These reactions are always interesting for me because I come from the Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Khia, and others era. This is nothing new to me. Black women have been expressing their autonomy over their sexuality and there is no "right" way to do that. However, people are entitled to what they want to see and listen to. But if this is their artistry and what they wanted to put out...what is the issue? It just feels hella judgmental considering that SO many male artists and rappers do the same thing WITHOUT the agency of black women. i think as you listen more and more you realize how good cardi's parts are!! i think megan's verse was more what people were expecting but i think cardi's slower parts really embody the message of the song whereas megan's makes it more likeable and creates contrast with cardi's to make the song really original

i loved the bars on this one from meg and cardi as well as the sexiness and raunchiness, i felt empowered when listening to this bc i felt included like all women different shape and size could feel sexy and liberated the lyrics weren't limiting like you can find most times in the same type of songs except there made by men and society has now put those stereotypes into the culture of what women should look like, when and how sexy they can be. I mean men call women hoes/whores in music all the time and we just live with it and with songs like this we can take the terminology that has been placed on us and turn it around for empowerment. I've never understood how men can capitalize off of women's bodies and continue to be praised and PAID HIGHLY and the moment we do were get shamed and ostracized as too much as if we only fit into there representation of what a women should be. I love being sexy, smart, hardworking and hot as hell all at the same damn time and no one should ever be made to feel ashamed i think women are just better multitaskers and it confuses men so they try to control the narrative

Everyone is missing the point. He's not saying there's anything wrong with women being comfortable with their sexuality, being raunchy or anything. He is calling attention to WOMEN OF COLOR and BLACK WOMEN - in the entertainment industry, this is the only role that's chosen for them. In the 90s, early 2000s we were grateful to have Aaliyah, Brandy, Monica and even Ciara and Destiny's Child - all different types from different walks of life giving you different imagery and personality. And we had the Lil Kims, Trinas and Khias co-existing happily in the same world. Now, it's only the Love & Hip Hop, I rap and I fuck type of model. Women CAN be sexual and feminist and all that but when it comes to black women surviving and rising in this industry they should be given all different types of roles because everyone else get to do it. Normani is super talented and there should be no reason she isn't on Arianna Grande's level but the industry only will let black women shine unless it's a certain type of model now.

I’m all for women breaking stereotypes and absolutely owning their sexuality. My issue is I don’t think the song is good. Flaunt it but have amazing lyrics and a quality song to back it up. For example Lil Kim Magic Stick that song is a banger , same with Nicki Minaj she is sexy and puts out lyrically interesting songs with fantastic beats. I think Cardi B relies on her big personality and her body too much and not enough on quality music .

I get what Dizz and Zac are trying to say. I don't think they're saying that the raunchy sexuality of artists like Cardi B is bad or unworthy of being aspired to, it's just that this shouldn't be the ONLY representation offered to and of women - especially black women. When they use the word "role model" I completely get what they're trying to say, Dizz and Zac are not saying that Cardi B is a bad role model but that she's not *everybody's* role model and young audiences deserve more variation and representation of themselves in the media. I feel like this isn't a critique directed at Cardi B herself (she should keep doing what she's doing and show as much of her body as she likes. That's her brand and she owns it. I love that we're seeing women completely owning their sexuality and being powerful with it) but I think the real critique lies with the media that push or block the images we see. Variation of representations in media is so important so that everyone can feel included and acknowledged. I loved your friendly debate in today's video, very interesting conversation to think about!
