Amazing and heartfelt, with an upcoming election and a narrow world view as its central platform, the British people need to remember how the world views them and the respect for fairness and sense of justice they command across our globe. It's no wonder then that people flock there in times of crisis, for they know they will get a fair hearing. Mr Ahmed, thank you for reminding us of what Britain is and more importantly capable of with true 'representation.'

@@salemgelidi3266 rather than have diversity as a dressing or a thing that's just added on the top after having created something, we should have proper representation in media. Representation that speaks to us, that we can relate to. Not only that, but also a varied form of representation. He's not just advocating for let's say the story of an immigrant or a refugee or someone along those lines. He's asking the media to represent the minorities in different ways as well. If i say there's a Western film about a businessperson who's been kidnapped by aliens and must break free to save humanity (poor example I know), you most probably will imagine a white guy here. But that can easily be someone with a different descent in that role. My example is very basic and doesn't capture much of his proposition but you can apply it to various aspects of representation. Hope this helps.

@@SaadAhmedShaikh actually, could I go a step further and ask why it is important for us to have representation that we can relate to? im not sure why i haven't really strived for it myself. (or if I should)
@SaadAhmedShaikh3 жыл бұрын
@@salemgelidi3266 it helps us feel that we belong. The population is growing diverse and even if it were merely a tiny minority, it would still be important. To see characters in media who look like us, who have had the same experiences as us, they creates a sense of belonging. That we are accepted enough that we are made visible in the media. This has been articulated much better by many other people, you can Google the importance of representation to get a deeper understanding. The lack of representation, or even constant misrepresentation, feels alienating. I would encourage you to search for the importance of representation, the others use entire article spaces to discuss this.

7:25 I'm not British Pakistani but I can relate to this. I'm half Irish Traveller, half Romani, and the first time I ever saw either of those groups portrayed as smart, human protagonists, rather than a highly stereotyped joke or a secondary antagonist group that is so dehumanised they essentially become fauna... Was the Shelby family in Peaky Blinders. I was I think 23 when I first watched it, and it was the first time I saw a Romani or Traveler character who... Actually had effort put into them? Were actually written to be a human being with emotions and motivations and a narrative arc, rather than just having their entire ethnicity and culture used as a MacGuffin to advance the story of a White British man, as either an obstacle to overcome or (good example here, Snatch, love that film but it has *issues*) a sorta whimsical yet generally dodgy character who acts as an ally who then swindles the protagonist? I had gone 23 years without seeing a positive portrayal of my people on television, with tv rarely mentioning us but when it does, it's always in a way that id designed to demonise us for an agenda So seeing Tommy Shelby, a badass protagonist, an independent, morally complex antihero who is written to be understandable, relatable in some ways, human... It made me cry tears of joy
@Baboonfromdatoon3 жыл бұрын
Isn't Tommy Shelby a career criminal? People like him should be imprisoned, not romanticised.
@OpreRoma3 жыл бұрын
@@Baboonfromdatoon you never heard of an antihero? Damn, wait until you see pretty much any other well regarded tv show or film. Hell i even used the words "morally complex", that ain't romanticising, that's acknowledging the man has flaws that are explored in the show My thing with Tommy is that it was the first time I saw a traveller on TV who was smart, tough, and whose character clearly had a lot of thought put into it. He wasn't a McGuffin for a non traveller protagonist, he wasn't a one dimensional joke, he was a human being, a fleshed out, fully formed man, whose motivations are understandable, and who you can judge fully It's genuinely difficult finding Traveller characters on TV who are actually depicted as... Full blown, complex people, with emotions and dreams and skills and flaws and a story, ya know? A character who is on a level playing field with the non Traveller characters, that's what is so rare, that's what Tommy Shelby is, and that's what meant so much to me

Mate just wondering why you voted for Brexit? Not saying you shouldn't have, I voted Remain but only narrowly because I felt pressured into it by left-wing people in Oxford, where I live... my partner-other half is Indian, from Kolkata, she has had massive trouble trying to get ILR despite living in and working hard in the UK for 10 years (now she has got ILR), but before that we went to an immigration hearing where they said she had to go back to Kolkata because we could continue our relationship over WhatsApp (that was their argument). In my opinion there was a pro-EU influence on the immigration lawyers which made it more difficult for my partner, who is very hard-working, very qualified and has no criminal record, to get leave to remain, whilst other people from within the EU got leave to remain with no skills and sometimes with criminal records.

Hassan Chaudhary We have been forced to embrace it by our governments who don't care about us. The majority of Europeans do not want to see another Muslim in their countries because of the child grooming and terroist attacks which come along with the religion of peace. Yor prophet was a pedophilic warlord who slaughtered people en mass but we have been forced to believe that somehow he was peaceful. Your religion takes over wherever it goes and if it can't do that it tries to damage anyone it can. In the UK we have no problem with Sikhs, Hindus or Buddhists because they come here and respect our laws and culture which leads us to do the same to them. All these groups do not like Islam because they came to Europe to avoid that barbaric cult.
@hassanchaudhary93006 жыл бұрын
Luke Kerrell lol that's because you people never understand Islam. Most Muslims today have inherited the religion and not learned it. Even I'm against those child grooming idiots who give my religion a bad name. Study the religion and don't look at it's so called followers. Islam has been around for 1,450 years almost and it has ruled the world for 1,350 years. You are saying like this religion was made by a man when no man can make an influence out if logic that would succeed throughout history and just continue. Lastly I wanted to ask you about UK. What culture? We gave you culture lol
@hassanchaudhary93006 жыл бұрын
Bo Pick you are just an idiot with no direction. You people have lying in your DNA. The Muslim countries facing problems is because of your hypocrite leaders who are doing that because we are a threat to you. And if even this is just not enough to elicit your reply.. Then may I ask that as a 'KZbinr', do you receive notifications every time a pre-existing comment is edited, or? Given my learned-experience, I think it most-likely excludes those who're not neurotypically-ideal _i.e._ spam across threads or worse: Even in a single-thread. So is there minimal threshold? Or does that only occur if a particular parent-comment on your upload is converted into a thread by its very first-available reply?
