EU already has 4 spots, which go to the 4 best teams in EU. We're talking about teams that wouldn't even be top 8 EU taking away opportunities from the region with the fewest opportunities. If they want to be at LAN, they need to do it through EU. If the FIFA world cup replaced low-ranked countries with the No.2 teams from stronger countries, you end up with a stronger tournament sure, but it's no longer a World Cup. The point of the World Cup isn't to have a tournament with all the strongest teams, it's to have a tournament with the strongest team from each country. Equally, the point of a LAN isn't to just have the 16 best teams in RL. It's to have the strongest teams from each region compete against one another. EU teams (or any region) invading minor regions to get spots at the Major are defeating the point of the regionals.

@@martingarrox5810 Wow great point, while we're at it why don't we send some EU teams to APAC, and OCE? MENA could probably do with a few teams to help deepen the region. After all, it's all in the name of helping these regions improve, who cares if it costs them their own spots in international events? I agree that it's a good idea to help out SSA improve its general player ability, but letting other regions take away their opportunities is not the solution. Send EU (or any other region really) teams to SSA to scrim? Great idea. Bring some SSA teams over to EU (or any other region really) to get them playing against a deeper playerbase? Love the idea. But you cannot have SSA just being a "5th seed" for some other bigger region (in reality it's more like EU's 17th seed at best). It destroys the entire point of having the region in the first place. "We want to help out the SSA teams" say the EU/MENA invaders while they actively hurt the region. At best it's short-sighted, and at worst it's blatantly hypocritical.

@@isaakvandaalen3899 No EU team would ever be willing to scrim SSA teams. They gain nothing from it. And SSA teams won’t come in EU just to get obliterated by D-tier EU teams. So you’re just going to have an useless region (which is already the case) and we will wonder why we even add them in the first place. SSA and APAC don’t deserve major spots. They don’t deserve to be called a region in the first place. There is simply not enough talent there. If you absolutely wants those regions to work because you’re like « OMG it’s so great RL is a global esport now » you need to accept that these regions need to be challenged by bigger region (EU/NA) and that you’re not gonna force EU player to challenge this region with nothing in return. 2/3 rule would be an ok addition but completely banning transfer is like giving to a child birth and then let him starve to death. It will simply kill the « region ».

@@martingarrox5810 I agree 2/3 rule is also a good idea. I also agree that in practise, there is simply not much incentive for EU teams to scrim with SSA teams. I'm not sitting here claiming to have a perfect solution. SSA is simply the weakest region, and it's not really even their fault. Economically speaking, the solutions which would be the best for the region are likely unrealistic. Probably the most realistic solution would be for competitive SSA teams to move to / scrim against other regions (Not even necessarily EU) in order to get stronger opponents. Still, regardless of what happens, I stand by what I said: Having non-SSA teams making up the entirety of the SSA top 8 is a problem and something needs to change.

RLCS already has 3 tiers of region - NA/EU > MENA/SSA/OCE > APAC/SSA. They demonstrate that with their prize pools and LAN spots. All they have to do is make moving down a tier much more difficult than moving up a tier. Realize wants to move to Australia and join an OCE team? No questions asked Aztral wants to play in SSA? Then you apply 2/3 rules or similar. Otherwise it's too easy to farm the honestly pretty generous lower-tier prize pools. Currently, if you get 3rd/4th in a Tier 1 (EU/NA) qualifier, you get $6k, that's the same as 2nd in Tier 2 or 1st in Tier 3 - that means you aren't going to see a lot of moves by players into "harder" regions unless they're totally cracked, so I just don't see a need to regulate that more thoroughly.

I don't think the boost meters will change current pro play, but it could have a major impact on future players. Kids that are 13 today and still got a couple years before they can play in the RLCS, they'll have grown up on the boost meters so they might comm their boost a lot less.

I think just having one resident per team is enough. As an OCE player, I don't think the answer is to stop imports - they are entertaining and will be long term too (just look at GenG). The problem here is players being predatory on underdeveloped regions. If 2 EU players came to OCE and dominated the region, I wouldn't mind provided they moved here (not playing from afar) and they had at least one person who was already a resident.

Personally dont find any problem with paying teams to participate in the EWC. The only problem is where the moneys coming from. But Thats how RLCS should be. Orgs should be receiving money from the league each year to spend on their teams, problem is the league doesnt make enough money and dont have any sort of broadcasting contract or anything
