I was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy when I was three or five. It was actually a challenge to do basic day to day things that would include my right leg and hand. I used to feel so embarrassed when people used to stare at my leg while walking or running. I did physiotherapy for four to five years and it improved a lot. I stopped walking on my toes and gained a little control over my right hand and fingers, enough that I'm able to play guitar and do some basic finger plucking. I started playing badminton, got into music and completed my high school. I'll be joining a college this year... and yeah..., idk why I wanted to write this down somewhere so bad.

Hey, to the people saying "I thought he was just a good actor" and "I thought he was actually acting..." etc. He is a great actor. He still has to act: Flynn's level of CP is higher than his own: he doesn't actually need the crutches. That means he had to change his physicallity, like many other actors do for their roles. Flynn's backstory and journey are diffrent than his own, and he was playing a character based on a late friend of Vince's. Also, just like everybody else, he had lines to learn. So just because he had that dissability already doesn't mean he had to act less. I just had to get that out there. I have CP too and it bothers me to see you guys underrating him. Edit: thanks for all the thumbs up and replies everyone. It's important to me, as a fellow CP, that people realize that RJ's work is just as valid even if he has CP. I'm happy to see some of you have reconsidered your view on all this because of this comment. Also kudos for the casting directors to go with someone who actually has the disability instead of an able-bodied actor.
@alyssa28074 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. First of all, why would they hire an able-bodied actor to play the role of someone with CP? Of course he actually has it. And second of all, that doesn't make him any less of an actor. He's still an amazing addition to the show so shut up

Keep it up young man! My younger brother has CP and I see his struggles everyday and am proud to see him work so hard to overcome them with grace. He's my hero and I pray for everyone struggling with a disability, furthermore I know folks with disabilities are some of the strongest people I've ever met. I've learned so much from people with disabilities. God Bless.

when i first watched breaking bad i thought he was just playing a part, i can't say how relived and excited i am as a disabled person knowing an actual disabled guy played a disabled character . and the fact they hired someone with cerebral palsy for the part makes me so happy. i use arm crutches myself so seeing walt jr in show makes me feel, like he said, seen. even if i have a different disability than him i feel like us disabled folk get each other and feel at home and comfortable with each other. it's awesome. love this video and love him

The message about people with physical and mental disabilities not hiding what they have is actually very true. There have been recent (but very little unfortunately) studies that show hiding autism as someone with it can cause very poor mental health. Very important message.

I was born with Cerebral Palsy but in a much more mild sense. It's amazing to see how RJ Mitte has overcame a more severe version of what has afflicted me my whole life. I had splints for around 15 years, crutches as well. It's an awful affliction for sure, but people like RJ show it can be conquered.

I love RJ Mitte being a voice for disabled folks. I am a small parts actress & I was completely blind until I was 11 years old. I am so grateful for actors like RJ & Gaten Matarazzo who have paved the way for actors like myself & many more to come.
