Thank you,. This video really helped me to sort out a connectivity problem with my alarm system that prevented it from calling out successfully. (The incoming and outgoing Tip and Ring wires were hooked up incorrectly inside the RJ31X box). I don't think I could have figured it out without your wiring diagram and clear explanation. I was disappointed not to find a Part 2 video, but luckily Part 1 had just enough info to get me on the right track.

RJ31X was invented by Bell Labs and manufactured by Western Electric for the Bell System. It was called a 635B connecting Block. They were big Army green blocks about 3" X 6" and close to 2" proud from the wall. I am an old Telephone man who started with Ma Bell in 1980.
