Yes, base unit. Made it boot from a TB4 housing with a 2TB 990 Pro. Have another 1TB 870 evo for my iphoto library. USB-C 4 port hub with 4 USB-A ports. HDMI to a 4k 27inch monitor in portrate mode. Have it sitting next to my Gaming PC. This little PC is amazing.

I just did a 4-minute test with multiple apps open on a base M4 16gb RAM Mac mini. 💻 Apps Open: Lightroom (working on layers), Photoshop (creating an AI image), CapCut, Finder (scrubbing through RAW photos), Safari (6 tabs), iMessage, Notes, Activity Monitor. 🤯 🚀 Performance Results: Within 1 minute, the memory usage shot up to 14GB, and the memory pressure indicator turned yellow (which is still manageable). Tasks Completed: Generated the AI background in Photoshop, masked layers in Lightroom, experienced only a slight lag (half a second) when scrubbing photos in Finder. WITHIN 1 MINUTE. 📝 Conclusion: The base M4 Mac mini is incredibly capable. If you focus on one task at a time (e.g., have only Lightroom open while editing photos and then move to video production afterward), the base model with 16GB is more than enough! However, if you’re someone who likes having everything open simultaneously, you might want to consider upgrading to the 24GB version of the base M4. 💻 My Choice: Personally, I’m opting for the M4 Pro (12-core) base configuration because I work at a fast pace after a few years of the same workflow. The base Model is hands down: King in its price category. Nothing can beat it. So far. Yes if you add some RAM and storage (256 is cutting way too close) then it's another class, but it still beats it. Those who do tasks as you describe it and regularly - professionally - those shouldn't be looking at the base model. Probably go PRO or opt for a Macbook that can do those things without a sweat.

If you are asking this question then yes, it will be enough for you. More than enough. I've used an M1 with 8gb ram for 3d work, editing 4k/5k videos and coding and it flies through anything I've thrown at it so you'll be good.

​@@Shimeih for both coding and editing videos it very much depends on the use-case. for example few medium sized projects in Intellij IDE + Docker will easily eat 8GB+. Add the RAM consumed by MacOS and a browser and you are going to use swap on 16GB machine. That's now, not talking about any future-proofing. ML projects could eat 16-32GB and more on their own. So for intensive coding 24-36GB are highly recommended. For light-weight apps or some university-grade staff you might get away with 16 or even 8GB.

I will get the base model delivered today, It's really a very good deal and I'm glad I waited 9 month now. I had already ordered a Mac Mini M2 Pro for much more money at a premium reseller in Luxembourg in november last year, but after 8 weeks of waiting to be delivered (!), they phoned me that the delivery had been lost ! Then I decided to rethink my decision to buy a Mac, but now that this offer is out, I couldn't resist ordering it. It won't replace my old iMac 27 inch for now. I will use it in another room and maybe replace my iMac later when it ceases to work one day. The iMac has 11 years now and it still can to the simple task easily. It's just no good for video editing, it's laggy, because it must cope with a 5K resolution and I think it begins to have heating issues because of decaying cooling paste.

32" 4k monitor on a Mac is unacceptable for me. The DPI is way to big; especially when I am used to the low DPI of the 5k iMac. I ordered the base M4 model and I'll use Astropad link to use my 2020 5k iMac as a monitor. Hopefully this works great and I can wait for Apple to finally upgrade their Studio Display. At the moment at $1600 it's a complete rip off. Apple is charging the same amount for their 60hz LCD Studio Display as an 14" XDR MacBook pro with 120hz pro-motion. That's ridiculous and a complete rip off from Apple.

I'm architect, I'm for years drawing for hours with that apple mouse without ANY pain at all, is perfectly ergonomic. You simply lay your hand on the desk and gently your fingers on the mouse. Is simply PERFECT (minus the charging port underside, but that is another question)

Buy the base model Mac Mini. Assume you have a Monitor, keyboard and mouse. If not shop around for used etc. You will find all kinds of deals to get you started. Buy a 1TB Sata III external drive for Time Machine and have a good time. I will do the same.

I don't care about SD cards because I'm fully switching to CFEA cards which already need their own readers, or just plug the camera to the computer to avoid wear and tear of the cards and have dual cards with simultaneous recording. Problem is Mac Studio is too old now and I might just skip it and go with Mac Mini M4 Pro unbinned option only as 24GB of RAM should be enough and the inner 512GB is ok for the system while using external SSD's. Problem is the M4 Max would cut rendering times by half due to double HEVC encoders/decoders which is crucial. But I'm dealing with 2x video length (4 hours video = 8-9 hours rendering on a software level due to lacking HEVC 10bit 4:2:2 encoders on my current PC).

I had to get a Samsung M7 monitor, because it has an ARC return for my Bose soundbar. M8 doesn't have this, I think. The new Mac Mini M4 256GB SSD speeds are not very good, only comparable to TB4 external drives. Even my Orico enclosure with a Samsung Pro 990 SSD gives about 2.7 GB/s read and write speeds on my M4 mini.

I'm mildly curious about the new Mini but I bought an M2 Pro Mini earlier this year knowing a newer one was probably around the corner. Ok so I’m confused just a lil bit. Is the base model hood for Final Cut 4k video editing. Some audio,transitions, a few efx, 4k 24 say 30 min videos. What’s export time. My view, the Power button is a non issue. I have switched mine off once when I was away overnight, and will do again on Monday, when I’m away again. Apart from that, if you set it not to update or look for messages emails and the like, checkout the power consumption it’s very low😊

Just bought it. Using it with my existing dual monitor setup of 24 inches 1440p and 1080p res. The text is blurry and unable to scale. I didnt know it has such a big problem with scaling. Windows does it flawlessly with any monitor thrown at it. Regret buying it :(

The "basic" model is more than enough unless you are rich and want to brag. 600 dollars is not cheap! You can easily work on Office, watch youtube and write emails or pirate movies with the basic model. Just buy a 2 tb external drive to back up the files. Ill buy a 2 mini pcs and even save money beacause the macmini is too expensive and boring. It should have been 400 USD max and available in more colors.
