How To Sharpen HEDGE TRIMMER Blades

Sharpening Hedge Trimmer Blades from a Stihl HS 81 / HS 82 using an angle grinder. Step by step process from taking apart the blades to cleaning, sharpening and re-assembling them.
This is just the method I use when doing a 'thorough' heavy blade sharpen and i get very good results with it.

I do mine on the machine with a small die grinder and I have seen some use a dremel, you’ve done good job there 🙂👍

Thanks mate, yeh when doing a light touch up sharpen i leave the blades on and use a small rotary tool as well. But if they need a big sharpen i always split them apart to properly dress the mating surfaces 👍

If youre charging hourly. How long did it take you from start to finish. Whole job including regrease gearbox, cleaning cutter bar and shim and spacer etc. I'm a small plant tech and always feel bad for how long it takes me and I charge am hourly rate. Thanks for any advice. Regards Matt

Probably around the hour mark, so thats the minimum you should be charging for a thorough job. Most shops dont even take the blades apart and do a shoddy job of sharpening, Talk to the customer and see what they want, as there is different levels of service. 👍

Thanks, Some blades do have bigger gaps then others from factory so it can vary from make to make so its hard to say really. If it is not cutting very well that might be a sign that something is wrong. 👍

When there’s A gap i grind the spacer a little bit, don’t do it too much

Depends how often you use it and what you're cutting. Generally though for a pro minimum once a year.
