I'd get that guitar with the 3 gold foils, but with 3 p90s (bridge tilted like a strat bridge pup) in aqua blue with the hot pink guard, orange knobs, black mastery bridge, black tuners and... Cuz im an 80s kid at heart, *sighs* a maple fretboard with matching aqua headstock. Sorry, i know the 80s thing of bright colors and maple fretboards is over but I cant help it lol. I would tacky the hell out of one of these modern works of art, and deep down love every second of it.
@Grant_Ferstat5 жыл бұрын
Either P90's or minis with the Mastery. I'd be going for a more conservative colour choice though :-)

@@Grant_Ferstat lol i dont think id buy one with my color choices off the rack but building my own? Wtf why not have some fun with it. I think black with all gold hardware would be cool too. Never seen gold p90 covers before lol

The pink pick guard sounds rad but if it ends up being a dick softener, sometimes tortoise shell pick guards look really cool on blue/seafoam green guitars! Great video RJ!

Love it! Thank you for this inside look behind the scenes. As a proud owner of 2 Novo guitars, I can honestly say they are my favorite electrics I've ever owned. Probably played about 8-9 different one's by now and each one was a great guitar and had it's own thing going on. Look forward to seeing what you end up with!

"I'm man enough to rock the teal and the pink!" That cracked me up. Anyway, I highly recommed a Firebird pickup in the neck position. I think it would go well with a mini HB in the bridge and it sounds more like a beefy SC than like a thin HB . That's what I have in the neck position of my Novo S (and I've never regretted that choice), anyway, together with Lollar Royal T in the middle and Imperial Low Wind in the bridge. But I'm sure Matt and the gang will let you play all the options at the shop to let you decide on what you like. In any case, you're gonna end up with a killer axe. Anytime anyone picks up my Novo S, they ask: "How did you know it was gonna be this good without ever trying it before?" Well, I just had a hunch :-)

I'm building a Novo Serus J in my head to order soon. Since I've never had a chance to pick one up, how would you compare the neck sizes to the Fender CS 50's V Tele style? Is the medium chonky thicker than that?
@wgb010015 жыл бұрын
Love the video & the guitars look amazing... BUT, I’m curious about the level of customization offered. When you two were sitting down at the computer it seemed like he was quickly glossing over a lot of the options and pushing you towards their standard “we always do it this way” features. Like the body wood, tuners, nut, bridge, frets, and neck shape options. Not a criticism - just an observation. Is it a true custom shop or just killer guitars with a few options? I’m curious.
@RJRonquillo5 жыл бұрын
Well I will admit I had a pretty good idea of the options I wanted going in, which were pretty standard. But from what I know, I think they are pretty open to just about anything.
@tinyb695 жыл бұрын
If that hot pink scratchplate seems like a little too much, you can always go with an aged cream, or even more, a buttercream one. Combination looks real sharp without being completely over the top. You do realize, that once you get this guitar, your next step is going to have to be the acquisition of a California Spyder, or a Testarossa, to drive yourself to gigs in. You can't just half-ass it when you're going full Sonny Crockett.

RJ..........Question-have you ever found the baked maple necks sterile sounding? I get it...I have a baked red spruce top on a J-35 which satisfied my search for a war time Gibson slope shoulder (without breaking bank). It projects like some of my 30’s/40’s Gibson small bodied/Archtop acoustics but when I have played these high end baked maple necks I fell like I’m loosing some of the warmth of maple.....I know maple isn’t warm but compared to the cooked maple necks , I hear how the neck affects tone. Maybe it’s the give and flex of the seasoned maple. I especially love a worn, broke-in vintage maple/rosewood neck which is what I imagine they are going for but baked maple has a stiffness in feel and leaves both ears and heart a bit cold. Not sure I have ever played a baked maple/ rosewood fretboard. I know stainless steel frets left me wanting the same way.Maybe it’s just a feel kind of thing. Would enjoy your take on it. Maybe a better question for a live stream. Guitar was such an evolution for me. Starting with crap and then getting hooked on the old wood. Newer to playing electric and it feels nearly like a completely different instrument but as I explore I notice some of the same recipes that apply to acoustics. I could never fall in love with a Les Paul but then I played Eastman’s take, the SB59V and bingo, I got it. I know just saying that will bring the hate but really, were all just earthlings. The love that goes into building these instruments is felt no matter the skill of the player. Even my wife who only moves my guitars around as they pile up gets that feel of an old instrument vs recent builds. Hard to quantify or explain as it is the sum of all these little things and how they interact with flesh, blood and bone. Thanks for making your channel feel like your hanging with a friend.
@RJRonquillo5 жыл бұрын
I don't own (yet) any guitars with baked necks so I don't have much experience with the tonal effects. I do like the way they look though.
@GIBKEL5 жыл бұрын
@@RJRonquillo They are stunning-Ill give them that. Maybe my problem with the ones Ive played is the that they've all been new guitars. Sound is so subjective yet we seem to all be able to reasonably agree on what sounds good. That interplay of feel and sound is what pushes the experience over the top. Case in point-I have a 30's Kalamazoo KG32 archtop- a Gibson budget archtop of those days and because of the way it feels, it pushes me to play better and thus sound better than higher end Gibsons archtops from that same era. The neck carve is one reason (fat V), it's X braced where as all of the rest of the 16" archtops were parallel braced and it has a very thin coat of nitro, letting that wood breath and move. Good luck on your build.

My dream relic'd guitar would be called the bluesman and i would want it to look like some barn wood electric guitar that looks like it was pieced together by a bluesman who couldn't afford a new brand name electric guitar in 1949 so instead took some old barn wood and had some luthier put it together and then the bluesman played it well into the 50's before retiring it only to have his music rediscovered in the late 60's and 70's so he has his guitar refurbed with modern parts of the era and after passing away in the mid 80's the guitar has been handed down from family member to family member with all the wear and tear that it involves and only now has it been rediscovered and brought back into playing condition without making it look new at all. I generally do not like Relic'd guitars but if i had one custom build relic'd guitar that's what i would ask for
