The episodes from the first UK season show less given by the millionaires. I think more of this is based on what the producers said to them about how much they could give. Most of these millionaires have continued to give.

@@rjspear I wish I am a fortunate soul as well so I could help like them. I love that they looked for deserving rathen just handout. Here in my country, the people are more less fortunate and same problems. I dont have funds but if there are opening for local volunteers, please sign me up. Just inform me at least a day so I could gather funds for my transpo and accomodation. I really wish I could help like this.

@@HernilLynn - I watched a lot of those episodes where they handed out very large amounts of cash and I wondered how the recipients felt about it. It is like a dream come true - you're struggling for the basics one morning and the next morning you can pay off all your volunteer organization's debts. Does it ever make the recipients less hard working? Do they think the troubles are over for good? Because obviously that money will be spent at some point and if you haven't been smart about fundraising while you had the cash windfall you can find yourself penniless again one morning in the future. I very much liked John's approach. He gave the young couple a down payment for a house, but in order to keep that house they are going to have to work every bit as hard as they have been working up until that point where they were given the down payment. And with Phillip - he actually gave him a job, not cash. Phillip probably would have been very frugal and careful with cash, but it eventually would have been spent. Having a job is a much more resourceful gift. And I agreed with his decision to not give cash to the large family who were all living together to save money. They did get themselves into a maze of consumer debt, probably at least some of which was unnecessary, impulse purchases. This was one of the best episodes that I have watched. And, like you said, most of the millionaires continue to give long after the show is over.

I like this episode. I like how he didn’t just hand money to people but instead offered a hand UP and not a hand OUT. Providing a job for the one guy gives him the chance to earn his own way which is important along with the down payment for the home which helps the father provide for his children. This man is very smart the way he did this.

Apparenlty Philip was at Ebac for 6 months then moved back to Liverpool where at the time he worked for one of the largest accountancy firms which he was thankful for because Ebac helped get him there. Not sure what he's doing now, just thought I'd add some little information for those curious about it. As I'm always interested in follow ups on these type of show.

He provided the down payment on a new home for a lovely family. But for Philip? John gave him an entirely New Life and made him part of his own life. This one is a tearjerker, for sure. In Germany it is exactly the other way around, refugees get apartments , living expences, money for clothes plus they get many Euros for every child. Many times immigrants live better and carefree than senior citizens. And I bet you, there is no rich person in this country that would give away a cent. God bless this man of yours.

@@stormysamuel4666 - We no longer use pennies in Canada. They were phased out some years ago. We had a certain amount of time in which to return them to the banks and exchange them for larger currency, so people were digging their jars and bottles out of cupboards and rolling the pennies, ready to take them to the bank. I know many people who were absolutely stunned by the amount of money they had in those penny banks. You think a penny isn't worth anything, and on its own it really isn't, but after 20 years of daily throwing pennies into a jar, some of these people had thousands of dollars that they'd been unaware of.

Thought he would possibly give the laundromat lady a dream vacation. Maybe he didn't cuz of the funny look she gave him which I noted about in first comment... Still too funny! Well John your act of kindness led my mind to think about the awesomeness of God. Its 3 am where I am at and usually people are sleeping but after watching this 47 minutes video, I am here telling God how supernatural He is. The thing that struck me is that I am not at church. This awakening is that God can use people to minister to others whether they are in church or not. God moves in mysterious ways don't it? A mean nothing is impossible with God. He will use a complete stranger to bless others. Your ministry is to help people,John. So more blessings to you, good health and happiness for your kindness.

Many of you in the comments are so ignorant. Y'all are probably people that have never given to Charities or poor families. At least this man gave something. Sometimes giving someone a job is better than giving a one time check. Now that man is in the position to receive many checks. Sometimes a down payment on a house is better than just writing a $10,000 check and have it possibly going to things that are not important. Y'all people do not look at the bigger picture. We don't need people like you in this world, we need people like him. I prefer to have a good paying job than to have someone write me out a check that won't last forever, but a job that will and a down payment on a house that I can invest in. Grow up and learn to be grateful and happy for other people.

MsDerryQueen the way he did this helps them stand on their own feet and have pride in something. Too many people want things for nothing. They have forgotten that Pride is not always bad. It used to be embarrassing for men to accept charity. Nowadays everyone thinks everyone else owes them something. Both of these people were MEN not children. They both wanted to provide for themselves or their family. This way they were able to. The house will mean more to the man because he would have earned it and now the other man is living in a nice area making a living and is able to save his money and provide for himself and his family back home.

I’m 63 and strive to keep my heart and mind unshackled by the pundits and especially ignorance. My favorite quote is by Martin Luther King, Jr. “There is nothing more dangerous than sincere ignorance or conscientious stupidity.” I’m moved by your investing your time to see more of the people you wanted help so they would not just be charity cases, but persons who will be responsible recipients of your financial gifts, but also your wisdom, and friendship. You’ve done and are doing loving work with all yourself. Thank you, again, for allowing us on your journey as a human. Regards.

Imagine 17yrs in that place listening to washers, dryers, kids, parents screaming at kids, men snoring as they fall asleep waiting for their clothes to wash or dry, let alone the traffic noise AND... Having to wash and fold other peoples clothes all day long!! Now that's a good, kind woman. I'm a woman but no way could I handle all that noise at my age now..67... And she's older than me!! I'm happy for the couple that finally got their own home. But if you're BARELY making ends meet and in debt already, why on earth do you keep having another child, and another child?? Children are expensive! Wait until you're properly on your feet a bit before you expand your family. Seriously.

How can he be a tory? He grew up in poverty, wants to help people in poverty, but votes for the party that has increased poverty and food bank useage to unprecedented heights. I can only hope in the years since this was made, he has changed his voting ways.

It’s amazing how all these Millions over seas are willing to give their money to help other people. I don’t know any Americans doing this they only take. I know by example JP Morgan kept my Husband retirement of 450,000 I lost 2 homes a business and live in a run down one bedroom home. Which I am grateful for cause I have a roof over my head. I thank you for caring for people. I don’t get any benefits from our Government. They took it from me and not working for 20 yrs makes it hard. And being Disabled doesn’t make it easier. I am so happy that People like him actually cares and not greedy. God bless you

There is one issue I had with this, and that's the young couple that got the money for the house. They can't pay of 800 pounds in debt, yet now they have this house. How on earth are they going to pay for that without going so far into debt that their grandkids will be paying it off? Had I been the secret millionaire, I would have paid off their debts for them, and probably given them an offer like: For every pound you save up towards the down-payment on your house, I'll match it with my own money.

The interest rate on store cards is prohibitive. A mortgage in Liverpool would mean less outgoings as rent would be higher. Plus as a mortgage payer credit cards are more frreely available many with 0% interest on balance transfers, transfer the money over and cut up the card. The £800 would soon reduce.

Raise my hat to you ,you deserve every pound you made ,you represent the kind good hearted millionaire, sharing some of your wealth with others ,God bless you ,you remind me of the famous Ali Baba who was the richest man in Baghdad who disrubuted most of his wealth on widows ,divorcees, when small children asked thier moms in the morning were we got this food from last night we had nothing her awnser would from Ali who was by then well known name ,one day a child asked his mom who is this Ali , she told him Ali baba ,Arabic word father, Decades later ,an English man in jail read the story about Ali ,decided to become a second Ali baba ,upon finishing his jail term with no money he started stealing from the rich and giving to the poor ,he took the name of Robbin hood

Not always about the money. It's the time you spent to listen, empathize, and impart your knowledge with these people that will make a lasting impact. It is how you make an effort to talk to people and help them understand that it is mostly their own misguided decisions that put themselves in those situation in the first place. Give them suggestions on what they could do to get out of that situation to improve their lives. Guide them along that journey. Offer help and inspiration just like what this man did. What he did is worth more than money.
