The dealer and independent shop claimed I had to have the transmission pulled in order to do this job on my '09 MK5. I was being charged 1350$ parts/labor for that job to done. I'm glad I found this video.
@RKXTECHcom2 жыл бұрын
Ha yeah that is what the workshop manual states is required, but us VW technicians found out a long time ago this is not needed. I can guarantee any technician at the VW dealer is not pulling your transmission to do this job, but they will have no problem billing you for it :) Most specialized independent VW shops will charge you a fair amount to do this job. Many general independent shops have no idea that it is even possible to do the repair this way so they will just quote based upon the shop manual suggested time.

For automatic transmission you will have to take off some more parts to pull off the pump, add approximately 30 min extra to the total labor time.

This worked really well for my 2.5. However, the kit for 3.0t didn't fix the leak from the pump plate. Is it because it might be warped from the age and heat?

Do you recommend draining the oil first? Also do you not recommend to oil the new gasket before putting the cover back on?
@ToddKing4 жыл бұрын
No need to drain the oil. Only a few tablespoons that are inside the pump will leak out. Do not oil the gasket before reassembly. That would probably increase the likelihood that it would leak again.

awesome video. best one on youtube by far. question though. is the leak coming from the front orange seal or the black metal gasket on the back? im getting ready to do this soon and wondering if the leak is just the front orange gasket and avoid taking the vacuum pump off. thanks
@yonggonlee Жыл бұрын
They say it is usually from the front orange seal, even though it can be from the metal gasket which is unlikely. I think you can replace both to be on the safe side.

Hi at 3:57 we are using a brake parts cleaner / degreaser. At 7:20 is a silicone lubricant spary.

Hey great video. I'm about to order your kit. Quick question, on a manual transmission can the whole unit just be removed then replace front and rear seals, reassemble and then reinstall? And also, where does the green "O Ring" go at included in the kit. Thank you!
@Proph3t62084 жыл бұрын
Hey there, just did this kit and I was bit confused myself because they didn’t show it. It goes on the back of the brake booster tube sticking out of the side of the vac pump. There’s a couple tabs on the side you push in on and it pops out. New o-ring made it much tighter.

@atsiauto4 жыл бұрын
It can't hurt, just try to use lint free cloth so you do not introduce any trash sand/etc into the engine! If you do some quick degreasing the areas beforehand it will minimize mucking up the engine when you pop the part loose mainly seems to happen then..

No power tools are required they just help speed up the job. You can do this with a basic set of hand tools and shop supplies such as ratchet, extensions, Torx bit set, pliers, brake parts cleaner, and shop rags.

I have a 2.5L manual transmission engine. in your video you say that you are performing the service on a manual transmission vehicle, but you do not show what you do with the manual transmission cables nor the mounts (or what ever you call it ) that blocks me from getting to the right side screws to remove the pump. Can I just unscrew the transmission mounts ?
@I-AM-DaNiEL43 Жыл бұрын
Whats crazy is its actually cheaper to buy & install the Vacuum pump delete kit by Spullen*.. then to buy a new pump. They should of figured out & engineered the 2.5l during MK6 era.. i have 2011.. now all these lil things have gone up 1 by one .lol Vacuum pump!, clutch ( just got replaced).. my flex pipe needs to be replaced (3rd time)-because my engine/ trans mounts are done too. Bout this 2011 jetta se 5spd in 2017.. for 8000$ then dumped 3500-4400$ into it.. Awe Track Exhaust/ Usp-dwnpipe/ NGP full tune up & UsP tune flash/ aFe cai/ Southbend stge 2 Clutch kit, radio subs/system.. I kinda regret it.. sounds nice 2.5l is good engine.. but limited what i can do with it, car for sale.. i live in Maryland.. 4200$ /trade.. just had a brand new clutch kit with slave cylinder installed .. that was 16oo$.. plus it has 1000$ Exhaust, 300$cai,750$ full tune. 154kmiles. .. like i said it needs Vacuum pump sealed(only thing leaking) new mounts, & flex pipe

Would an oil leak from this vacuum pump affect my car's braking capability?
@fergiealexamolina66125 жыл бұрын
The dealership told me I have an oil leak coming from my vacuum pump and also a leak from the vacuum line (my brakes weren't working fine). They fixed my brakes problem, can't afford the new vacuum pump, but now I'm wondering if the leaky vacuum pump will keep affecting my car's breaks?
@RKXTECHcom4 жыл бұрын
Generally a leak from the front or rear seal of the vacuum pump will not cause any performance issues. If the Vacuum port O ring is leaking that will cause a loss of vacuum and performance. These pumps rarely fail internally so if you still have issues after a rebuild I would be looking at the hard plastic lines that come off of the pump. These can crack with age and cause a loss of vacuum.

@DanTheManIOM4 жыл бұрын
you just use this kit and you don't need a new pump ? Interesting. Time to order, when the car was in the dealership, the tech told me the vacuum pump failed and that is why it is all wet.

I need to take out all the oil before to remove the gasket?

No. You will lose a small amount of oil that is inside of the pump when you remove it, but not enough to effect your overall oil level.

What is I need a new vacuum pump? Will this solve the issue?
@habbadabbado57659 ай бұрын
The existing vacuum pump is most likely fine. Rather, it’s the gaskets that seem to be the issue.
@sergioherrera30293 жыл бұрын
What does that vacuum do ?
@hildaelvir20593 жыл бұрын
Provides a vacuum for the brake booster, to assist in applying the brakes. These engines don’t receive vacuum from the intake manifold and need this little tjing to do that.

Being careful with the torque specs is verry good idea when installing these gaskets. Doing them badly may likely bring back the leak and then require a second redo.
