The message is that you need to cope with your environment to be happy. Don't accept all kind of restrictions but at the same time u have to cope somehow to be happy with what u have at that moment. We can see RM at the beginning sad even tho he tried different worlds at the end when he faced himself and opened the door he is free and more happy. But the buildings shows that he is still somehow trapped but he accepted it and free himself from his past Thaughts that was caging him more

Yup thats one of the interpretations. Honestly this song and mv cover so many things thats why people interpreted it so differently. I have seen so many takes on twitter and all of them ring true to what Joon and his team were going for, so its honestly such a varied and layered work of art

I see this as him trying to fit in everywhere and dealing with it, and considering his whole adult life was basically being BTS, i can see it make a lot of sense. Also some past memories like the kid scene. And like you said, the huge maze of buildings and rooms shows that there's no escaping it, just accepting this situation and trying to find happiness.

Honestly there is so many interpretation you can make..I do not see it as a love song. It's life, it's the maze of life, societal pressure of being a certain way, doing certain things, not fitting in anywhere, not being the right person in any of the places or roles. But the memory lane thing you mentioned is interesting too.

1 ARMY theory is that these are all different Events that occurred to him in various timelines of his life: he was a child to his parents, a friend in a group out partying, a boyfriend in a turbulent relationship, and then a husband with a beauiful family. Throughout, he felt like he was never fit perfectly into any of these roles. In his journey of self discovery he encounters another human, kim minha (the actress), who is as lost as he is in the maze of societal roles and expectations. However after they had a conversation on the couch, he realizes that it's not just him, this is the reality of most people, and life is never going to feel perfect cut to him being teleported to these scenarios again, but now he's happy bcs knowing he is not alone in this journey makes him appreciate life and it's imperfections more. In the end it's almost like enlightenment where he's freed from the shackles of pursuing a perfect life now understands the true meaning of living. you see him walking through the forbidden door with kim minha, both now happy and content.

that is so interesting, i absolutely love bts for always talking about things society may tell us to "push back". in society we are expected to react and be a certain way, and many of us hide the pain that entraps us. It's one thing to know that everyone has their own issues and another to truly understand you are not alone in your pain, no matter how different the situations may vary per person. I love how they take the time to tell their stories and make sure to convey it in such a way that it feels like a direct message to ones consciousness rather than simply a music video made for the masses. i have been a fan of bts since their debut and they never cease to amaze me. i have loved many artists for the uniqueness they carry. But with bts, its not just uniqueness, its so much more. i feel above all, i love the rarity of them. and whenever i sit here and think of them, even with knowing i may never meet them, i feel absolutely honored to live in the same lifetime and timeline as them. they make me content

I love this song since from Suga's concert! He doesn't want to follow what society expects from him to be or do. The last girl represents his inner true voice and helps him getting out of all those normal life sceneries and live his life the way he wants to.😊

Seems like this song is inspired by the book "The Midnight Library".He's going through each phase/regrets of his life again. They're bitter and happy. His parents, love life, unhappy wife, child, the drinking life with friends n the DOOR!! Kim Minha is the librarian!! The door takes him to various different phases. He keeps switching between doors, running from one to another.The last scene resembles the bookshelf in the Midnight library where each book depicts the regrets of protagonist Nora seed .Nora seed a 34 yr old woman who tries to kill herself cause of depression She gets stuck between life & death. The librarian shows some books & Each book shows her regrets in life like a failed relationship, sibling issues, .arried life etc. This in MV is the scene where Joon runs on the corridor opening one door after another. She's given an option to go through her regrets. It's more of "If i had made this decision instead of that,would my life have been better?" Finally she realises what she has currently is the best version of her life & lives it without regret - That's the end where Joon leaves the place with Minha (The librarian) - he goes back to his current life without any regrets!! RMs IQ os 148. I never look for simple meanings. My theory If you did know RMs work every mix tape and album is different from the last. His first self titled mix tape is a slap back at his friends from his under ground rap days who called RM and Suga girls for wearing makeup. He used it to demonstrate why he was a better rapper than any of them, and to lay down his truth. In it isJOKE and DO YOU( the song that says clearly he refuses to be labelled or boxed into any genre). He is continuously pushing boundaries. In a way thats what is also happening in the mv. RM wanders around confused and unhappy through all these potential different lives and expectations never being comfortable. We see this has been so since he was small. At some point he becomes more comfortable in each scenario after being united with his other half/ self, and he can be more comfortable with others. But he still doesnt stay, he moves on finds himself and accompanies the woman( other half Jung or Plato?) out of the maze of societies expectations to find non of it's real. In the light he sees its all fake sets designed and created by someone else. However with RM there is always light at the end. Hope of better futures now he can see what life is about, he is free of those boxes. There are several clues for ARMY buried within the MV. Pain Devine. During a conversation piece with Pharrell Williams they discussed judging lyrics by how painful they are to produce ...pain divine, devine inspiration?

It seems to me the last girl running around the house is really him looking for the real RM and then he recognizes himself and "comes back to just being me". He doesn't want to lose himself. Could be different life scenarios that are not really him but then in the end he shows up in each scenario again doing fine. And if that's the case why is he cheating on his family? I don't know, just trying to figure it all out. Again at the the the same woman shows up and takes out the door to see it is all a studio of rooms and life scenarios. Maybe after he finds the real RM he can adapt to each life drama and then exit as just being an actor in different dramas. What do you think? Reminds me of Jim Carey in The Truman Show movie. It kinda goes with the theme of his album and song title Right Place Wrong Person... coming out shortly.

This was too deep & hard to comprehend for a lot of reactors.. RM was basically re-living different stages of his life, realizing he wasn't happy. I guess the lady in the end was a reflection of RM as she probably went through similar things in her life, confusion, sadness, etc. The moral of the story is not to regret past hurts, but learn from it & just be happy in the present. Loved Rm's acting, the song & lyrics again show what a lyrical genius RM is👏👍💜🤎

In the endafter he finds his real self (which is always a talked about dream of KNJ as we've seen from last years Festa dinner) he comes back to being the real RM knowing he is just play acting and then exits stage prop setups. Life is a stage and everyong is an actor but you can't lose yourself and believe you are really apart of all the drama.

I hate to say it, but on the first day of filming he hit his head within seconds of the start and and to go to the hospital to get stiches. But like a trooper her came back and filmed. The noted film director was worried ARMY would blame him. But isn't this just like RM. He is so much better at not being clumsy but once in a while he does the human thing.
