There is not a recommended oil change interval for road use as this is a motocross bike but Yamaha recommends changing the oil every 3rd race (or every 7.5 hours). If you're riding on the road you can likely go much longer but you'll want to check the color of your oil and change it when it starts to look dark.

I recommend at most every 10 hours for Yamaha 450 supermotos. Wouldn’t go past that. My wr450 lasted 12k hard miles of supermoto use before I let it go. Never had valve adjustment or any major work. Oil change every 6-10 hours (quicker if I did trail riding) and changed oil filters and air filters (usually cleaned or replaced after each trail ride. Only every 1k miles on road though) these engines are as solid as they come. Do the basic stuff and it’ll last.

Off, if it is running the oil should be cycling through the engine and you won’t see any in the sight glass.

My 2024 yz 450fx with engine shut off is between marks.. but when engine is idling there is no oil in sight glass is this normal.? Soon as I start the engine it sucks oil down and is no longer in glass

Yes, that is normal. When you start the bike, your oil is circulating in the engine and you won't see it in the sight glass until it stops and the oil can settle to the bottom.

The 2024 WR450F will have the exact same procedure and oil quantity.

Yes they will use the same filter.

Do what you want, but Yamaha's spec on the '23 is 0.96 liter with oil filter (960ml). Just verify you are good in the sight glass. -Charles

Nope! The new YZ450F doesn't have an oil screen.

This isnt for 2024. 2024 drain plug is onnthe left aide 3rd bolt towards the front. Also the manual says to check site glass with it running upright. The oil lecel should be at the marks while running. This video ahoyld be 2023 ans under. 2024 is a diferent motor altogether. Always refer to manuals instead of videos. I followed this guys video and none of it applied to 2024. Read the manual

I'd check your manual again. The Yamaha service manual recommends running the engine, then waiting a few minuets after shutting the engine off to check the level in the sight glass with the bike level. See page 3-13. The check you are talking about is under the check engine oil pressure step, according to Yamaha. See page 3-15. No worries though, I can understand why you got confused. I'd recommend doing a VIN check on your bike if it was a different process from ours, you might have a different year. Is yours a 450? I've re-checked the Yamaha service manuals and the '23 and '24 YZ450F's are this process. Like you said, always refer to your model specific service manual, and make sure you know what bike you are working on. -Charles

@rmatvmc I have a 24 wr450 and the manual says different. The engine in the 24 is different than the 23. I have nothing confused I just did the oil change on it and followed the manual

@@derekparisian2023you are the one that is confused. Dont follow a yz450f video for a WR. 23 and up yz450f have the exact same motor.

The crush washers should be replaced but the O-rings shouldn't need to be replaced every oil change.
