Been a fan for long time. Met you at a craft fair in Ketner's Mill sometime in the 1980s. Had you make me 3 damaskas knife blades. Made into complete knives with elk antler handles which my sons and I still carry.

Ryan’s talk at the end about mindset and gearing up accordingly hits the nail right on the head! It’ is ongoing joke with friends about how prepared I am on hikes with extra gear. But guaranteed my pack becomes lighter the more extra layers, water, snack bars and in some cases first aid gear they take... By the end I’m one of the lightest 😂 I love RMJ tomahawks I haven’t found any better as off yet

Exactly! Every time I go hiking my shrike is on my belt because I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. It’s such and invaluable tool to have with you in the event you need to rely on it. I’ve gotten used to the jokes but in the end they know if we get lost or stuck in the woods, I’m their best shot because I’m the one that always over prepares.

Just ordered an Unmei. On paper it has the specs I want for concealed defense. This video sealed the deal because of the display of quality and pride in American craftsmanship

Just bought Tomahawk Model 1 and added UCAP Nitro-V. Awesome craftsmanship... and finish, packaging and certificates along with superb sharpening... WILL DEFINITELY NOT END UP IN The- SOCK DRAWER ... Well done vid.... enjoyed. Hope we see more in future. One last thing... you including your staff from designing to packaging would make anyone proud to be part of your team.

The RMJ site seems to be sold out of Tomahawks. Any idea when things will be back in stock? Or if there are other knife sellers that sale your blades?

Waiting on word for the Unmei Nitro-V with 4" blade. I like the large groove, but rarely buy this style knife w/o a guard. The Sparrow has the guard, which looks completely sufficient, but 3.1" blade is a problem. Guess I want a 4" blade with a guard like on the Sparrow. Not sure which way I will go. most curious about this steel. Great overall knife design.

I definitely want a tomahawk from you guys but why the change in steel? Going from 4140 to 1075 or is the tomahawk a combination of the two?
@Daxm15e2s

Forget the question. I just read the reason for the change in steel on the forums.

When we first started the all steel tomahawk over 15 years ago, we felt that having a deferentially heat treated head would improve the durability of the tomahawks. We initially heat treated the heads to 54 rockwell hardness and the handles to rockwell 30, so they would spring and reduce the chance of breaking. 4140 allowed for that type of heat treat. Over the years, steel quality has improved and we found that need for the deferential heat treat was no longer necessary, so we use other steels that we feel give better long term edge retention. -Richard Carmack

I understand the craftsmanship and the quality control and I appreciate all the details that make your products great. That said, I cant justify spending $500 on a loggerhead that I am then going to, like you said, "strap on" and take out to put through the ringer. I am hard on my tools. And while I am sure your tools are made to withstand heavy use, I wouldn't be able to justify torturing something I spent two car payments on. One day I hope y'all offer a budget friendly option under $100 so I can rep your brand. Seems quality, the price is just too dang high.

Sever Shoots Hello, in case you aren’t aware, CRKT sells knives and tomahawks designed by Ryan Johnson that are less than $100. I own the CRKT Woods Chogan. I hope this helps
@severshoots
@severshoots 5 жыл бұрын
colebeast55 I realize that. I also have a Woods Chogan. The stuff that actually comes out of their shop is definitely too expensive for me though haha id love to have a lagerhead but my wife (and my conscience) would kill me. Toooo pricey

Its a shame, they make a bad ass hawk. Try to find one. I contacted RMJ, to order a hawk, they told me to contact one of there dealers. They don't have any and don't take orders either. Good luck finding any of their stuff. I don't mind waiting for a quality piece but who has time to search out 20 dealers in the hopes they may eventually get what you want. Pass
