RMR 86 Pro Review, Will it Remove Serious Chunky Mold?

Trying out RMR 86 Pro and RMR 141 to treat a severe mold problem in a crawlspace.
Mold was so bad I had to remove and replace roughly 80% of the joists in this home. The remaining joists I chose to sister up with new joists, treat for mold and termites, and leave in place.
I hope this review helps, I made it because most videos about RMR products were just treating surface level dusty mold. In my crawlspace I had a lot bigger problem than that. As you can see in the video the product works to remove the mold on the joist shown, what you could not see in the video was the outcome of the the rest of the joists. It worked equally well, but I had to use MUCH more RMR 86 on some of the joists that were completely covered. Sorry I could not video those instead, it was just too difficult and I was worried my respirator would get saturated and stop working if I stayed in there too long.

Use a graco paint sprayer is easier and faster and attach to crawlspace air vents at least 2 2000 negative air machines. Other than that good work man!

It is always amazing to me how dumb home construction is in our country. Crawlspace so shouldn’t even be a thing, especially shallow ones like this.

only way a crawl is acceptable is if it is 100% perfectly insulated and encapsulated with a good dehumidifier and drainage system. anything less than that and your homes framing and air quality are going to be bad in a very short amount of time

Great video, I'm glad you used good PPE, I'm about to do my crawlspace this weekend, a couple of rounds of spraying; then a good vapor barrier. What is the 141 for ? 👍👍💚

The 86 is only a stain remover. The 141 is what actually kills the mold.

@beammeupscottsp7952 I don't remember what order to use them. Just follow the directions. All I know is that that the 86 is a stain remover and the 141 is the mold killer.

That product doesn’t kill mold it just removes the staining

One thing that I am pissed - off about the RMR manufacturer and that you need to let your viewers know about it working in a crawlspace is that the product has no cautions on the bottle that tells you this smell can and will get inside your home and you will smell these fumes...Shame on you RMR BRANDS!. I don't know how long this smell last, but I am on my second night with windows open to help not breath this stuff and it is cold outside. Yes, I see they sell a odor eliminator. I found this after using it, but you have to look for it or know they sell a product for it because the RMR-86 bottles doesn't tell you that.

Hate to tell ya, but #1 all RMR 86 is dilluted pool shock with a surfactant (dawn dish soap) added....yup! You could've done the whole crawl space for less than $10.00. 2) that mold shall return with a vengeance because you didn't pre-hepa vac and as you disturbed it it was sporulating 3) you seriously needed to be wearing a full face respirator.

I replaced 80% of the joists in this home with treated ones, sistered up the all the remaining joists with treated ones, added a 4 foot deep sump pit to the lowest point, dug trenches from every corner of the crawl to drain to the sump pit, and added a moisture barrier to top it all off. I also air sealed every seem of the new and old subfloor to prevent air exchange with the interior of the home to prevent mold spores from reaching the inside air. I think I did the best I could with what I had to work with, so if mold comes back on the old joists, that is just going to be the way its going to be. You are probably right about the RMR being pool shock. If I buy another home with a similar problem, I'll try making my own treatment and post a video about that.

@craig Dude, mold is everywhere. It's in every room in your house and you can't do anything about it. Let's be honest -- you're talking out your ass. Life is too short to be spending $5,000 over some invisible lava. "Uh oh! I disturbed the mold! Game over!" I'd worry more about the rat shit in your mother's walls. Less than $10.00.
