I'm sure there are interesting little things that we never think about - like how deep a step is, or the positions of hand rails, that could actually prevent injuries. Research from places like this likely is used to help determine building codes and standards for things like safety shoes. A person in my home town died a few years ago falling down a poorly designed set of stairs in an old building, where normal modern stairs would have likely saved him.

"Wouldn't be Tuesday if I wasn't in a harness" That is a classic line, Rick Mercer! Love this man!

Safety First...I slipped on black ice right in front of a safety gear store trying to get boots that would prevent me from slipping.

Haha - this is hilarious! I've recently bought a pair of shoes called 'YakTrax', basically they attach to your shoes and they (mostly) prevent you from slipping on ice...very handy when walking the dog!

Do all Canadians ask "how are you?" and genuinely not expect a response?!
@Dan-zi46 жыл бұрын
Pretty much yes lol
@flamingarbre1284 Жыл бұрын
That is just saying hello though, tho most ppl do respond (this is a tv interview obv). It's just 'hi, how are you?' 'Good, thanks, how are you?' That's for just any random person not even someone you know haha

Yes. It’s a rhetorical question. It’s cold and we’re in a hurry to get warm.

I think the private sector would gain t he most from this... well this lab. They would make a killing if the could find a shoe/boot that is practical and offer good slip protection.

What's the point though? It's not like we will ever prevent every single person from getting hurt walking on stair or ice, The rehab part of the facility seems like it is worth it though

You're making a lot of assumptions. Only a portion of the money is from federal funding. There is provincial and private funding as well. This facility has 12 labs in total. They're only showing the one that makes for the best television. And of course, Rick Mercer is doing a humorous take on this, not showing the sophisticated work they do. They have a website if you're interested in learning more.

This is money well spent. As mysticknight38 said, the private sector has the most to gain from this. Innovations made from these studies could easily translate into new products and thus new jobs.

No, this is an internationally leading reasearch facility supported by a mixture of public funds and private corporations from Canada, the US, and abroad. The Senate - now that's a waste of money.
