Actually, only the QM2 is a true liner. Elizabeth and Victoria are cruise ships, Vista-class to be specific.

Wow!!! Amazed at the unapparent speed of the Queen Mary 2. Those guys in the yacht were moving pretty fast yet the Queen Mary 2 just glided past them at considerable speed with great ease. Amazing!!! Great video!!! Thank you so much!!!

The Queen Mary 2 is the fastest ocean liner/cruise ship in service today. The Queen has a top speed of 30 knots (the retired QE2 had a top speed of over 30 knots). The QM2 was designed to cross the Atlantic between Southampton and New York in 6-days w/an average service speed of 25-27 knots. To lower the fuel consumption, the Queen was slowed down a few years ago and now crosses the North Atlantic in 7-8 days at around 19-20 knots. The ship is probably doing around 25 knots in this video.

Supposed. She wasn’t sailing at her full steam. Her boiler room 5 was running low and boiler room 1 hadn’t been connected to the engines yet. Also her 2 sisters had been never sailing at that speed...from what we know...We only saw that kinda thing on the Cunard twins

@Kaidhicksii2 жыл бұрын
It's no big deal at all. Ships have been sailing the transatlantic route long before the Titanic and, as you can see, still do so to this day. The only things the Titanic disaster changed were not being as reckless and naive and arrogant as we once were. Sad to say though we really haven't changed much at all as human beings. If anything, we've gotten worse.

She’s the 2nd fastest liner in the world, only because someone had to build one faster just for that reason. Built to look grand & modern. Still one of the biggest. And believe it or not she has 2 rolls Royce turbines to suck air into the engines. A true masterpiece.

QM2 was designed to cross the Atlantic in 6-days at a speed of around 26-27 knots. Over the last few years QM2 has been slowed down to 20 knots to save fuel by not using the gas turbines and the crossing now takes from 7-8 days.

What is difference between ocean liners ND cruise ship.
@Kaidhicksii2 жыл бұрын
If you're still looking for an answer, I can help you at. Ocean liners are built to transport passengers from Point A to Point B. Since they operated year-round in the open ocean and could encounter very severe seas, their hulls were built extra thick to better endure the pounding they'd get. Additionally, they had long, knife-like bows and slender hulls to cut through the seas, and deep drafts which gave them a lower center of gravity, increasing their stability. They also had large amounts of power in order to achieve high speeds. Cruise ships are a more modern invention. Their hulls are not as thick since they generally operate in calmer, milder climates. They have shallow drafts in order to access more ports. Their bows are not as sharp as a liner's, nor are their hulls as slender. They tend to be very boxy in appearance, and their superstructure often exceeds the height of their hull, giving them a higher center of gravity. This is all to pack as many cabins, balconies and accommodations as possible, in order to fit as many people as possible and make as much money as possible. They are not well-designed to cope with harsh ocean storms, and rather than operating Point A to Point B voyages, they do round trip voyages, starting at one port, visiting others, and then returning to the same port to end the cruise.
