I'm always wondering about the safety of someone being so limp on a rollercoaster. The way they flop.. it looks like it could do serious damage to the vertebrae in the neck but from your comment it seems like the creators have calculated that into their restraints?
@v3es4735 ай бұрын
@@Andizu1you don't actually flop around with the bottom of your body. That part, basically anything under your waist, is secured with i believe pneumatic restraints, which run free until locked in. Basically you push the harness as far down as your legs will let them, then connect them with a failsafe device similar to a seatbelt in a car. After that, the staff there will come and give the pneumatic harness a nice heavy push against your legs just in case the harness can lock in even lower, and after it's checked by staff, the pneumatic harness system will not budge until it's released using an external "plug". Basically, your ass will simply not be physically able to move an inch from the seat. Or even if it can, it will still only be a few milimeters up or down, and absolutely no side to side movement. With the upper body, that kind of movement doesn't occur due to the way coasters move, like as you see they don't do any sudden stops or random unangled 90 degree turns. Basically the way they're bending and curving ensures that your neck doesn't randomly snap to one side, rather always is pushing mostly down, also why many turns are angled.

@@holdenbrowning7200 Some people have more specific fears, like the restraints, heights, safe operations, maintenance, and some have more broad fears, like just being afraid of riding them in general. Nothing specific, literally just being on one. If you have that kind of fear, where you are scared of them in general, you should try riding one yourself. That's what worked for me. You will either get addicted to coasters, be neutral with coasters, or be terrified of them and never ride one again. It just depends on the person. For me, I became EXTREMELY addicted to them. JUST MAKE SURE THE RIDE YOU TRY AS YOUR FIRST REAL COASTER IS NOT A ROUGH ONE, like how rough mine blower is. Try something not too rough but still considered a REAL coaster. if you never try a real coaster you will NEVER get over this fear. Even if you ride kiddie coasters or more small coasters. It has to be a real ride. The coaster that set off my addiction was Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa. Although, I was comfortable riding things like Cheetah Hunt, but I would never be able to do things like Kumba or Montu. This was years ago. Once I did Montu, I could never not ride a coaster again.

during moments like these, you must let go, and accept what is coming to you. it makes it alot easier. yes you will feel the adrenaline rush over your body, but if you're not tense, you feel it alot less. I want to ride hyperion so bad, it seems like such an amazing attraction. I find this man very brave for entering the ride, despite the fact that he seemed so incredibly affraid to get on hyperion. not everyone is made for an intense artificial flying experience, and that's perfectly fine.

I can try my very hardest to accept and let go. But i have no control of my fear whatsoever. Even when ai go on a ride I want to it’s like I cannot control my reaction no matter how much i try. I even talk myself through it like “it will be easier if i relax my body” yet by the end i’m always sobbing and hyperventilating. Which is why i now tell people it’s just not fun for anyone for me to join them.

I used to be deathly afraid of roller coasters despite never riding any. One day at Hershey Park, I was about 17 and decided to finally ride a rollercoaster. I wanted to experience it finally and conquer my fears, even if I passed out I told myself. I was also with a group of friends at Hershey Park for the day for the first time since I was a little kid, and didn’t want to chicken out. So I was socially pressured as well. Needless to say, I did not regret it. One of the best times I ever had. Although admittedly I kept screaming and getting close to passing out, but I tried skyrush for the first time. The tallest one in the park. Now I love roller coasters, the anxiety building up before the drop and the drop itself is so fun😭

@@puffcatcothought about that recently, without an addditional seat belt on the front, wouldn't it be easier to slide out of an over-the-shoulder-restraint than a lap bar? Still near impossible probably, but still...I went on the new vekoma stc at tripsdrill recently and felt absolutely fused to my seat with that Ergonomic lap bar and bucket seat...
@puffcatco Жыл бұрын
@@pingucraft95 I do agree on that sentiment, as over the shoulder restraints hold you in merely by your shoulders. with a lap bar, your body is "folded in half" making it impossible to fall out. now, I'm not saying that falling out of a rollercoaster with otsrs is a likely occurance, but in theory it should be easier to slip through the harness.

Well, actually, he couldn't have. Once a roller coaster starts, the restraints cannot physically be opened until the train returns to the station
@eddycs1952 жыл бұрын
Nop, nonone can open the restraints, they're automatically locked until they recive an electric signal in the station, they cannot open during the ride, and they're locked with the same hydraulic systems used on airplane's flaps, trust me, no human can put enough force to open them.
@largol33t12 жыл бұрын
@@eddycs195 Also, some coasters have a backup: there's a seat belt holding the bar in place juuust in case the bar disconnects but that has never happened. The buckle is outside the car so it's impossible for teens to reach it no matter how long their arms are. If you get on a coaster and wonder why the ride crew squat next to each car, it uses the older bar and seatbelt system.

@juiceonthebeat2 жыл бұрын
Elaborate please, because I also do the same when on roller coasters
@heathers.51942 жыл бұрын
@@juiceonthebeat Due to the extreme back & forth, repetitive & erratic motions while riding a high-speed roller coaster (much like shaken baby syndrome), this subjects the victim to seizures, traumatic brain injury (TBI- as in football players & other athletes where repetitive trauma to the head is a problem), severe whiplash, concussion, broken neck/spine & even death. It is important for people with certain conditions/diseases/disorders not to even attempt riding such a ride (doing so can up their chances of severe injury/death). Apart from the medical risks... as we have seen, too often than not, the maintenance on such rides is subpar at best. Many times, maintenance records are forged or incorrect information concerning the ride is provided... leaving room for avoidable injury & disaster. It's important to have accuracy when it comes to all amusement park/carnival/fair rides; without that, we're taking huge risks, blindly trusting the industry has our best interests at heart.

Here's a tip, if someone tells you they're afraid to go but they're going to try it tell them to look at one thing that's attached to something in the roller coaster chair and focus just on that and let all the shaking the ups and downs and the scenery around be ignored, and if you're going to be upside down or side to side crazily tell him close his eyes for just a moment and grip and forget everything else. Never ever talk somebody into doing something like this that's definitely afraid of those things, years ago my girlfriend who is now my wife wanted to go on a really scary roller coaster, I race desert motorcycles up and down cliffs and sand dunes and drop offs but knowing things about mechanics I didn't trust the safety, I told her this and she simply called me a wimp.
