My shift starts at 10pm and end at 6am. The facility I work at have 3 floors wherein the 1st floor is a Memory Care unit. The second is Skilled Nursing Facilty or Rehab, that's where I'm at and the 3rd floor is the Long Term Care or Nursing Home, this is where seniors live in the facility for medical and other reasons. The patients on my floor are usually expected to stay at least 2 weeks or more depending on the physician's order for PT/OT, their progress and insurance coverage.
Disclaimer: Every shift is a different situation. This is just one of the "quiet" night.

I am only 15, but I really want to be a nurse at a nursing home. I love old people, and seeing how well the nurse took care of my grandma it is just made me want to be a nurse even more! Thank for the video. I currently work at the rehab portion at a SNF. I have been there for a couple of years now and have been trying to slowly transition to hospital. I'm just a little lacking in confidence changing from ST/LTC to acute care even though my unit is like a med-surg floor. I need a little confidence lol and I am working on it. I also hate changing jobs but I feel like I need to get that hospital experience to better my nursing skills

I felt the same about my skills when I was working in SNF but I left the hospital in January due to covid. It was getting too much for me. I'm at an acute rehab now. But if you want to challenge yourself, I do recommend trying the hospital. It's really different. Please share if you do! I wish you well.

@@ashleyz4888 I started on a bone marrow transplant unit and worked with patients with multiple myeloma and other blood cancers who would get stem cell transplants. Some of the patients did really well and it was rewarding to help them through chemotherapy and immunosuppression and see them get well enough to go home. I got a lot of experience with central lines and became chemo certified which can help you make more money as a specialty area in some places. The down side I think is that some patients can go septic pretty quickly and some of the patients who don't do well become really sick and it's sad to see them suffer. I worked at my first job for 4 years and learned a lot. If you're interested in oncology, go for it!

Hey Nimpha, this was a very informative video! I have been struggling to find a hospital job since graduation. How long did you work at the snf before working at the hospital? Any tip or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks :)
@lifeofanightnurse4299
@lifeofanightnurse4299 5 жыл бұрын
blo0m4ever What I like about nursing here is that there's a lot of option, you just have to start somewhere. Don't be worried too much, just ask for more orientation time if you don't feel comfortable or safe, but you'll never really feel ready because orientation is just really short and you won't learn everything in that time span. Where I was at, they give 6 weeks for new grad. And always remember that you'll have your co-worker, just ask questions or for help. What state are you in? I'm in a med/Surg ortho&GI right now
