When it was retired, reportedly the MoD asked the Bucc squadrons what would best replace a Buccaneer. The answer (according to Bill Gunston) was "Another Buccaneer!"

Only just listened to these. Very engaging. Tom was the boss of one of the Buccaneer squadrons when I was at Lossiemouth in ‘85-‘87. He was similarly engaging in the bar of the Officer’s Mess

Terrific interview. I could listen to his stories again and again. His honesty about what worked and what didn't work is so real. Thank you for your service Tom

As a non-native english speaker: Real pleasure to listen! Both for the story as well as the clarity of the language.

I have just come across this video. I served on 237 (Buccaneer) OCU in the mid-70s. It was great to see Sqn Ldr Tom the CFI again.

The name of the engineer that came up with slightly off-setting the front and rear seats (and placing the rear seat slight higher than the front seat), will probably never be known. Nevertheless, he will always be blessed and held in the highest esteem by grateful back seaters that flew the Buccaneer over the decades.

The Bucc got fitted with the FIN1063 Inertial Nav. It was identical to the Jags FIN1064, apart from the control unit was different to fit in the Buccs cockpit.

I know the Navy and the Airforce hate each other but it really sounds like it was good overall to have RAF pilots get some experience in the Navy and likewise I'm sure some Navy pilots spent some time in the RAF. The services have different missions and ethos - probably it was quite valuable having some exchange of those skills.

Great interview. Very interesting and engaging. Spoilt by the intrusion of the music over his answers at the end. Bit annoying, not to mention rude!

Not quite as harsh as you but yes it was a bit early. "Thank You For Watching Part 1" at the end?
