The original 1.0 release of Tetris GB had a Bach minuet as its Type A music. Hip Tanaka apparently played this BPS Tetris and decided to incorporate its title screen music (a folk song Korobeiniki) and its default in game music (another folk song called Troika). That combination as an A section and B section has become internationally synonymous with Tetris, and we basically have this BPS version to thank.

Thanks for that bit of info. Been wondering about this for years!!

Henk had already left the presidency of The Tetris Company to his daughter Maya when this video came out. It happened circa 2017~18.

There's actually a ROM hack for this version that fixes the controls, which makes this version of the game pretty decent to play. I still prefer the Nintendo version, though.

obligatory mention that Nintendo Tetris on NES is so widely played now that people discovered a whole new playstyle of rolling the actual controller to move peices faster Famicom Tetris on the other hand felt like BPS took the home computer versions and slapped them onto the Famicom with no second thought
@RndStranger2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that's what happened since most computer joysticks at the time only had one button.

I played this on a multicart one time and I assumed it was one of those Hong Kong bootlegs

Yeah, it gives off that kind of feeling.

3:13 - that weird "all of the above" copyright label is wild ... so we have the BPS version, the Tengen version, and the Nintendo version. That was REALLY confusing turning up with a stack of floppies of miscellaneous dumped roms in 1997 and seeing those various logos on several versions of tetris. Looks like the rights to tetris were worth the fight. Last month I went to the tetris world champtionship at Portland Retro Gaming expo, and played Tetris Effect on the plane ride over - Tetris is eternal. The only good thing to come out of this game is Technotris. It should be noted however, that Henk Rogers (founder of BPS) was the first to secure rights to publish Tetris on platforms.

The rights issues also led to Sega recalling it's home port for the Mega Drive, allegedly.

Personally to me, the best one is the Gameboy version, but then the Tengen one plays nicer and gives you more on NES, and close behind (largely due to the nicer visuals and classic theme) the Nintendo one. I see them tanking it being just salty not just legal, but salty since theirs wasn't as nice aside from the ear and eye candy.

Indeed I heard the TETRIS rights thing was a gigantic mess. it's funny though I've played the BPS version of tetris but I much rather prefer the atari/tengen version. (although overall I prefer ARIKA's 'The Grand Master' games, but those never officially showed up on Famicom so that's a bit out of the scope of this youtube series.) but they DID introduce the T-Spin which I could see why it ranked so highly on your tetrominos top favorites.

I also think the Tengen version is better
@sjake830811 ай бұрын
@@dieinfire920 I definitely prefer the Nintendo version: The Tengen version takes too long for one game and is pretty slow and it constantly breaks between stages whereas the Nintendo version has really snappy, addictive games where the difficulty escalates much more quickly.

Because I was revealing them as I went through the episodes. Some were more identifiable than others. 😅
