Boy, I’m glad the KZbin algorithm put your video in my feed because this was super enjoyable to watch and such a breath of fresh air from the hard to watch reviews of other creators. I managed to find a 30th anniversary portal and can’t wait to play it. As a dad of a 1 year old, I love gaming on my ps5 but hardly have the time now to just sit on the couch. Often times the tv is occupied or what not but this is a game changer for me for sure.

I got mine at launch. I have a wife, 3 kids and limited time to game on the TV so this has been awesome for me. I was using my Steam Deck to stream the PS5 before this came out and the Portal is a way better experience. Better screen and all the DualSense features.

I wasn’t sold either until they did the update for the cloud gaming after that I bought one, and now I’m loving it because I can play it anywhere. Only thing I think it needs is the feature to be able to stream on the cloud the digital games that you have purchased on the PlayStation store.

That’s a bummer as I don’t really care about the ps plus premium game catalogue. Hopefully they’ll add this as a feature too in the future, if so I’ll immediately buy one

If you PS5 is using WI-FI to connect to the internet, wire the PS5 with an Ethernet cable, you will see a vast improvement.

Times are vastly different now. In the 80's & 90's growing up, we had 1 tv, 1 VCR & 1 gaming system console. I grew up with an older brother. We had to share things a lot. Sharing isn't a great thing lol. It has a lot of disadvantages. Such as if you don't like a movie, tv show or video game 1 was playing, you had to be there watching or playing whether you liked it or not. This was more for movie watching on vhs. Now kids get their own tv, own blu ray players, consoles etc. You don't have these problems. In my house hold now, everyone has their own tv. So everyone watches what they like.

I bought a PS Portal brand new. The same day, I ordered a case for the Portal to go inside, and I ordered a portal case that goes on the device with some stick grips. But what's crazy is I still haven't played on the PS Portal. I have no one hogging my 55" LG OLED 120hz. So I'm not sure why I bought it. That poor device gets no love from me.

I remember never getting the tv, and I would do remote play from my phone to my PS4 through a website, and it was horrible with lag. The PS Portal would've been a game changer back then, just like it is for you now. But I'm not getting rid of it because I might find use for it one day.

It does not have to be on WiFi, you can use it via a hotspot on your phone and as long as the service is good, it works perfectly. I use it this way more than anything. Not sure why more people don’t know about this

I absolutely love my PS5 and PS Portal. One thing to note about PS Portal though, is that not all public Wi-Fi outside your home will allow gaming. But once you find a good public spot with free Wi-Fi then it's really good. It's excellent at home and on the go.

I’ve recently rediscovered remote play because I haven’t had time to play games in years. The family have started watching long seasons together that I’m not interested in and as the kids have grown up, there’s less room for us all to sit on the main sofa. So I downloaded No Mans Sky, it’s a chilled game that a gamer of my age can just mooch around on and remote play has let me do that from the other sofa. I didn’t really know about the Portal until yesterday but I’ve just bought one. I was going to wait until the release of the new black one but I’ve paid a bit extra to get the grey anniversary edition for a hint of nostalgia for my original PS1, I can’t wait for it to arrive

Question how does it work for disk games? Will it play whatever disk you have in your ps5? And can it play other disk without physical changing the disk? Also can you not hook up headphones to it since the volume is so loud?

It'll play whatever disc you have in the ps5. You can use headphones, but that won't help with the sounds of the vibration from the system itself

Im defo getting one now buddy. At first when you said about the pixels dropping ect (Same happens to me when i stream on the xbox app) And i only use WI-FI full fibre so i was iffy. I dont use ethernet because my routor is downstairs lol. But then you said the thing was updated to work better with WI-FI so im sold. Can you not turn off the rumble so it dont make so much noise? I’m not even joking I beat it first try on ps5 😂 I platinumed Astro on my portal. Except that one level. loving my portal so much! Currently on ghosts of Tsushima, stands offs feel great.

Just a heads up, and I know I'm way late to the party, but most places that offer free wi-fi, have their own pseudo log-in pages that make you agree to their own ToS for using their bandwidth. You basically have to have your device default to a web-browser when connecting to do so. That might be why MacDonalds and Dunkin never let you connect because it didn't seem like the portal lets you do that when connecting.

Didn't know you were able to use your laptop to remotely record footage. Is it limited to 1080p resolution? I've been able to use the Share button on my portal to record gameplay straight from the portal, but my ps5 needs to be set to 1080p and hdmi needs to be connrcted. Footage is limited to 1080p

Yea thought it was weak at first but it actually make sense if you want to chill with others and still play on the coach. So I felt the same way but been chilling alot downstairs and really want to test one now. Gonna go to Amazon and get one. Would be cool if fully portable but obviously not possible yet. I love the ps portal. I'm a stay at home mum. I felt guilty wanting it because it was expensive (though actually reasonably priced). I love my ps5 but I never got to play it so I was bummed often about it (though I didnt say anything really). He noticed I didnt get to play ever so he bought it for me. Gave it to me early. I instantly loved it. I have been able to play my games while doing things. Not to mention shortly after they added cloud gaming. Which only made it better! I completely agree and recommend. It is all about time.

I still play my psvita. I really wish they had followed up on that system. When I heard they were using a much older Wi-Fi connector to save on the price I knew I shouldn’t bother. I live in Nashville and not one of the areas that has the better faster internet options. It just was not gonna work in my house I already have issues on Ps5 just from it being downstairs and the router being upstairs. And sadly I know I’d use it a ton other wise. I’m disabled and being downstairs is just often not an option. But glad to hear it’s doing well for people might bring hope for future handhelds

@@eddie_taco2350 If you’re going to connect to your PS5 through the Portal then you’re PS5 needs to be either turned on or in rest mode to connect, but there is another way to play games on the Portal, if you enable the cloud streaming (beta) option you can stream games from PlayStations Cloud service without needing an actual PS5 console (As long as you have a good internet connection) But keep in mind that this feature is only available to PlayStation Plus Premium members

Yeah you can play separately if you have a PS Premium subscription and use the cloud streaming feature on the Portal. Otherwise, your portal will mirror your PS5 so you wouldn’t be able to play without interfering with your brother’s session.

I have mesh WiFi with Ethernet backhaul with speeds that average 850 down and 5 up. Runs smooth with minimal input lag for me even with my throttled Xfinity upload speeds.

Are the controller part replaceable? I've never had a controlled last the life of a console since the SNES days. The controllers are going to suffer drift or just stop working in some way. Without replaceable parts this is a no go for me.

They aren't, but the internals can be fixed by you or a 3rd party service. I haven't had a PS4 or PS5 controller break on me yet

@@RNGGamerYT It was weird, my son was logged in on the PS5, and his remote play is enabled is on. Every time he used to portal it would log me on the portal. It was agitated us, I finally saw on the portal’s setting for logging out. I logged him in and he was finally able to use his profile to play FF7 Rebirth.

My friend has been trying to talk me into buying the Portal, he loves it. I'm still not 100% sold. I setup WiFi for a lot of restaurants. word of advice, you'll almost always have better luck if you use guest services at small mom and pop restaurants because they prob use retail routers and not high dollar firewalls like McDonalds likely use, and the corps use blocking tables as well and small companies don't usually bother. Umm, that level in Astrobot I haven't seen yet. Not looking forward to that beast. wow

You can use a Hotspot. But I use it at bdubs all the time. I've used it in Vietnam and my ps5 was in Texas. Runs beautifully.

Sony’s BIGGEST mistake with the Portal is that they put Wifi 5 in it to cut cost. Not, 6, 6E, or 7. WiFi 7 was too new, and 6E is probably a little more but at least WiFi 6 Sony come on!!!! 😢

I was between this and the Steam Deck. Ended up going with the Steam Deck even though I spend 90% of my time gaming on the PS5. The lack of playability without internet is what killed the portal for me. When Sony makes a true handheld PlayStation that doesn’t require connecting to the home console or limited to cloud streaming, I will buy it easily. I play my steam deck constantly, but I already know I’d play a PlayStation handheld more.

@ No unfortunately. After the PS2 I went the Xbox 360 route and didn’t get back into PlayStation until 2019, which the Vita was close to the end of its lifecycle by then. Plus comparing the PS3 and PS4 to the PSP/Vita is like comparing the Switch to Gameboy. They both play Nintendo games but there was a clear difference in game quality, which is completely understandable. But the technology is there now and I heard rumors Sony is working on that true handheld console to compete with the Switch and Steam Deck.

I know not everybody has access to an unlimited hotspot that doesn’t get throttled, but I can’t imagine trying to use public Wi-Fi to do something like this let alone pretty much anything. I have a hotspot on my phone that doesn’t get throttled no matter how much data I use and it’s how my MacBook or anything is connected to the Internet no matter where I am. Public Wi-Fi is a nightmare.

I don't have a portal but use my steam deck for ps5 an moonlight streaming regularly and its awesome. Iv being a fan of remote streaming since the Nvidia shield the first product to do a decent job. Having Ethernet is an absolute must and as i live in a busy house with lots of people using the wifi i have a dedicated 6e router for streaming the 1 router in my hallway manages just fine in any room of my 3 storie 5 bedroom house. Now the portal is only 5gz and is only doing 1080p 60 streaming with no hdr so you dont benefit from having wifi 6e but for pc streaming and steamdeck i can take advantage of it for 90hz hdr streaming and 1440p 120 if i plug it into my tv or 4k 60. Streaming at higher fps helps alot with latancy. Id recommend Sony enable 120 streaming even though the portal is only 60 for that reason

It just takes control of your PS5. So if you pick a game on PSplus ultimate, it runs on their servers. If you have a disc in the system, it runs off your PS5

The problem with the PS Portal has never been the price, it’s worth every penny of $200.00 and Sony fixed the streaming hiccups, the only issue now is Sony refuses to let you stream KZbin or movies with it and wants to charge you $180.00 a year to stream and play old games.
