Botton line is teach the way it works for you and learn the way it works for you. I bet most people can train with Travis and learn something and train with Ben and learn something. When one starts going down a path believing that they are better than others that path might end up nowhere.

I really think Travis is a good person at heart, he just has a different approach to firearms training. Personally I’m a fan of the simple, plain speech approach to instruction (which is why I watch Ben’s stuff). Travis’ stuff is definitely flashy partly for marketing purposes but I do think he’s trying to provide people good training, it’s just a little much and strays from the bottom line of what it takes to shoot well.
@JohnSmith-yx8kf8 ай бұрын
Here's the problem: you're not paying for him to be a good guy (which he really seems like he is), you're paying for effective instruction. The training industry has become a mirror of the fitness industry in many ways, where people who can use big words and talk about biomechanics can effectively bamboozle uneducated followers into thinking they're some sort of guru, yet none of it stands up to objective standards when it comes time to actually perform.
@MagDumpGuns8 ай бұрын
@@JohnSmith-yx8kf YOU aren’t paying him for flowery stuff but there are people out there who do, clearly. You or I would go elsewhere for training - that’s the beauty of the free market, you get to choose where to spend your money and time. I don’t get wrapped around the axle about this stuff but I agree with Ben and Matt and therefore would choose accordingly when it comes to training.
@JohnSmith-yx8kf8 ай бұрын
@@MagDumpGuns Nobody is getting "wrapped around the axle" about it, but at some point it's not just a difference of opinion when it comes to training, it's about calling out stupid practices and making sure people know they're stupid (or a complete waste of time). At some point the "it's just a different approach to training" excuse just doesn't fly. Scott from Modern Samurai Project has different ways of teaching people to pick up the dot on a gun. Cool. Ben's methods and criticisms of Scott's training make more sense to me, but Scott at least is concerned with actual performance output. Same thing with the fitness industry. There are a lot of great coaches out there who disagree on methods, but they all get results. And then there's the 'coaches' like Joel Seedman, with 450k followers, spewing clown show nonsense. Those guys need to be called out because they're wasting people's time and money. And I'm not saying Haley Strategic falls into that category of borderline scammers when it comes to just fluffy language to sell sh-t, but conversations like this let people see what they're paying for, and let them make an educated decision on what they want from a course.
@MagDumpGuns8 ай бұрын
@@JohnSmith-yx8kf Definitely agree that these conversations should take place so that people who seek information from different perspectives have it. I have learned a ton from Matt in particular about training mindset and thinking critically about training practices, and I'm super grateful for the perspective that he has given me. I just know that people seek training for varied reasons, and for some, they like the flowery and out there stuff because it makes them feel...special I guess. Is it objectively going to make them a better shooter? No, almost certainly not. But if the information (from all sides) is out there and they choose that path that's on them. I'm also grateful that these businesses sometimes bring in new shooters to the training space that might not otherwise be there. I've known people who got started on the flowery bro vet side as their first stepping stone into training, and as their skills and knowledge increased, they moved past it. Right or wrong, I'm probably projecting frustration with the cancel culture that we live in and that I sometimes feel it leaking into the firearms industry for better or worse. I'm all about the consumer finding his or her way in the space and luckily we have videos like this one to help shape our perspective.

I like Travis and understand where he’s coming from with the “taking ownership” angle… But I would take the video down, and address it in a follow up rectified video. That way this is also a constructive instructional pivot for Trevor.

The methods of Matt and Ben are validated in how many world champions have done it the same way. It’s a proven methodology. How many shooters of any repute or accomplishment has Haley’s mumbo jumbo produced? Is Haley a GM? He should be a Taran Butler level world champ. But the reality is, he isn’t and nobody cites his class a being “the thing” that put them over the top. Edit: I give them all credit for coming on and having the conversation. They come at it from different perspectives but all of their hearts are in it for the right reasons. True professionals can discuss and disagree!
@spartan117gw8 ай бұрын
Haley Competed for years and got GM. Did a lot of competitions in Hawaii and shot with Phil Strader from SIG and Ron Avery. Travis doesn't compete full time because he's more than just a shooter and someone of his skills would be wasted just competing all the time because frankly that's just ONE of his actual skills. Being just a GM wasn't his focus and if that was the only thing he was good at then all the more power too him but that just wasn't the case. In the last 20 years Travis stimulated the foundation of the modern firearms industry. The same industry Matt and Ben profit from. If you want to know how many people have either been inspired by just ask how many people walking around today who are making moves in the industry like Lucas, Mike jones etc who got them inspired to start their Journey. Also keep in mind Travis changed the game with equipment, The Incog was the first high end caddy holster that would later inspire the sidecar, the Offset light mounts completely changed the way we think about attaching lights to a rifle, the original D3CR kicked off an entire era of light weight or micro chestrigs. Thats not even including the Magpul products like the BAD Lever, ASAP sling plate, MS3 Sling, AFG etc all which Magpul never paid him royalties for designing. Magpul still sells new versions of his designs. Between all that I think hes affected way more lives than potentially raising a couple GMs. Weather people like it or not most shooters probably use equipment thats either a direct descendant or derivative of something he designed. That doesn't even include the work done with Bravo Company Manufacturing designing accessories , Him building the Gunfighter Program and bringing a lot of the OG instructors together (something people thought was impossible at the time). People take a very narrow look at Travis accomplishments but hes one of the few OG instructors still active in the space today. Few peoples have the kind of knowledge and skillset that is as wide as it is deep. Everything from soft goods, weapons development, weapon and gear history its really wild. Most gun instructors knowledge is deep and narrow to the subject they specialize in and that's fine but to this day I have yet to meet anyone whos that balanced. Who can run a gun, tell you the whole history about that gun, and knows the engineering aspects behind it etc. All I see are 2 extremely skilled men who wanted the opportunity to tear down another skilled individual. A shame really that despite Travis trying to be courteous with the others and be open all they did was make fun of him. Imagine if they all decided to work together rather than tearing each other down over bullshit. Not like we already have to worry about our own government taking away our freedoms or anything. Sure the training methods are different but that's ok. Any good shooter can find value with either of these 3 men. Watching veterans and instructors try to tear down other veterans and instructors is pretty gay. the whole point of this was to invite someone on their show to have the opportunity to try to humiliate them. I guarantee if they actually did this LIVE AND IN PERSON the behavior of the 3 men would be completely different and WAYYYY more productive and thats a shame. in short, Travis didn't create a couple GM shooters. He created an entire generation of gun owners and id guess quite of few of those probably became GMs.
@therealjohnsmith48118 ай бұрын
@@spartan117gw That's a whole lot of cool aide drinking. So the answer is no, his program has produced no shooters of any repute and nobody ever cites him as what got them to be a great shooter. People are inspires by BS all the time. The Incog was nowhere near revolutionary nor the first of its kind. Absolute nonsense. So many of the other products you mentioned were flash in the pan fads that no professional shooters nor Tier'ed units use. Professional shooters and actual SOF shooters laugh at the old MAGPUL videos as comic relief full of theatrical nonsense. The whole mag flip thing is probably one of the most laughed at and meme'd things out there. So if you want to say he inspired generations through theatrical nonsense and psycho mumbo jumbo and they later grew up and learned the right way, then I agree with you.
@spartan117gw8 ай бұрын
@@therealjohnsmith4811 lol you do realize how many people in SOF use things he's designed right? People are just finding out about the Carl Gustav pack. Travis has even said himself that he's learned a lot since the Dynamics era and that's totally fine. Training goes through its evolution but the impact it made on growing the base of gun owners that could be shaped and molded in almost unquantifiable. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Travis was trying to help everyone. Ben wants to get people to GM. Those are two different things. If someone wants to become a GM awesome. If someone wants to learn the basics and defend their livelihood or just get better for their job also good. Also I said people say he got them into shooting you're mis quoting what I wrote lol

@@spartan117gw Good shooting fundamentals are good shooting fundamentals. Travis tries to sound smart with a whole bunch of wasted words that are complete nonsense. Nobody goes home and repeats that wasted nonsense. You will never hear Ben Stoeger, Max Michelle, Jerry Mitchulek, any professional shooter, nor SOF instructor say one word of that nonsense. Why? Because it’s nonsense. The word needs another chest rig like it needs a hole on the head. Carl G pack? Have you ever actually seen one used in an assault or just in Haley’s promotional video. @@spartan117gwI agree 100% that Travis played a significant foundational role in revolutionizing the way people think about firearms training and equipment. The issue in this video though is that he’s jumped the shark to land where he has. The fact that he made GM without this stuff and that no other high-level shooters use his methods are proof that his newest system is all fluff, which is why Matt & Ben are acting the way that they are. The reality is that Travis is a brilliant marketer (that’s not intended to be an insult) and his target market is big dollar defense contracts who love irrelevant words like ocular this and kinesthetic that.
