Excellent work, Dave jumping in to save the lad and the Coxswain reversing the boat and the two in the water away from danger. When clear the wonderful Severn Class lifeboat with it's low side made extraction so much easier.

Do RNLI train to do jump ins to rough seas with Breathing apparatus like scuba tanks and regulators?
@rnli4 жыл бұрын
These are not part of RNLI lifeboat kit. Our crews really only jump in when there is an immediate threat to life, as in this case. However, as part of crew training, there is a platform jump into a cold water sea survival pool at our College in Poole.
@jillmcleod42764 жыл бұрын
@@rnli I've jumped from that platform - it's pretty high!

Excellent work. Is there a reason an ALB was deployed instead if an ILB, which in this case would make more sense?
@rnli4 жыл бұрын
The crew of the ALB had already been assembled for a false alarm with good intent a few minutes prior. Knowing there was a casualty in the water, they didn't want to lose any time and made their way straight to Portstewart Head.
@simongreer61794 жыл бұрын
I don't think portrush's D-class could withstand those waves, even if it was made by the top RNLI engineers

Looking at this video for improvement maybe an idea for a wave watcher, giving the helm ideas of what types of waves are coming (size/types). Just a thought?

Boats don’t generally create enough hydraulic pressure to cause a person to be pulled underwater. Even a boat that is sinking does not generate forces that draw a person beneath the surface.

This is what the brave heroes of the RNLI were established for. 👍🥰 Not to be a taxi service for illegal aliens.

We don't judge anyone we're called on to rescue, their status, their motives for being on the water, or what brought them into danger, PJ.
