This SO reminds me of Arthur Avenue, the Bronx -- in the early cool summer mornings when the sidewalks had just been hosed down and everyone was ready for a beautiful day -- pushcarts, neighbors talking, ladies leaning out the windows, produce sparkling in the sun... What a beautiful time it was for this little kid in the early 50's!!! What beautiful memories this music evokes!!

This divine music is an orchestra turned into the waltz of a carousel in which all childhood joys come true and also the dreams of all adults, if those dreams are of the tender beginning of springtime and first falling in love. What beauty could be more divine and delicious than that which this music speaks about in every sound and every breath?

Well-said Jack! This is so awesome it brings tears to my eyes. If you want to hear a fiendishly clever concert waltz from a Hollywood composer, go to "The Boys from Brazil" soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith here on YT. He takes Johann Strauss' "Blue Danube" and orchestrates it as if Richard Strauss composed it. :)

Mom brought me and sis up since we were little tiny kids-- with music; hers was jazz and boogie woogie-- Nonna Lucia's was Italian opera, Auntie Anne's was Classical and then there was Dan Ingram and Cuzin Brucie and 50's Doowop -- heh heh -- us kids didn't miss out on anything -- i even listened to the West VA jamboree at night , in the Bronx (the radio was under my pillow or else the adults would start screaming at me for liking Hillbilly Music -- hey I LOOVED it)

Every Russian composer’s waltzes seem to surpass the poor oldWaltz King, Strauss. Tchaikovsky’s are especially good, but Glazunov can run with the very best.
@abe_48
@abe_48 5 жыл бұрын
That is because Russian composers, in addition to their brains, also used their heart and soul in composing their music. Most compositions from famous German composers appear wooden to me. But for Tchaikovsky's waltzes, they are not just "good" but rather spectacular. Russian waltzes and especially those of Tchaikovsky carry a story replete with human emotions and dialog. And a tad bit of melancholy, as in here, doesn't hurt it at all!

Thanks for posting this wonderful work of this great Russian composer. IMO, this work embodies the true definition of a "Concert Waltz" with its elegant and serious symphonic structure as substantially distinct from common dance-hall Viennese waltzes; not to mention the Slavic melodies ingrained here that are immortally beautiful with lasting effects on listeners.
