Money. A game like the old RO would be a really hard sell on today's ADD generation. People don't want to carefully plan stat builds, dedicated skill tress, open exploration and hidden plotlines. Easier to pick a class and just mindless follow a set path of questlines to get loot and then farm instances. The only option the sinking Gravity had was to try to play it safe and release yet another WoW clone. Basically, the generation RO appealed to is no longer the dominant demographic in gaming.

HCSR2 that's not the problem. RO the game is okay. It is the uncontrollable cheats that makes people quit.

Play D&D. Trust me, if you get into it at first it may be confusing. But once you make your 2nd or 3rd Character you can really go about and carefully plan your stats, have very impactful skill choices, open exploration, hidden plotlines and even character arcs.
