Envious m8. Fished it for many years just outside of Blandford Forum. Had some big Chub on bread. Winter fishing that river is best. Proper fishing. Only difference with your set-up to mine is that I use a closed face reel. More vids please. Tight lines.

Excellent video as always my friend , yes once we get the first frosts it normally puts them down for a while ,a few days or so . Nice simple rig Ian. I noticed how cold the water was on Wednesday , I was on the Gt Ouse at Wyboston , I normally do well but fishing was very hard going , just a few very small roach on flake , Thank you again Ian for another lovely video ….

Looks like a rather nice days fishing. Love trotting for Roach myself. On the last day of last season I had my (Shimano) reel break and had to borrow my brothers reel for the rest of the day. I ended up with around 80 Roach for just over 10lb's, All trotting maggots. I then went and purchased the Daiwa Ninja 3012da reel in readiness for the new season. I liked that reel that much that I went and purchased another.

Good video’s. Never fished the Stour, but have a Billericay AC ticket which have a stretch at Henny St.? Do you know this section? Must give it a go love rivers ( Lea, Roding, Wid,) in the winter, but a bit of a journey as I live NE London. Any advice welcome. Thanks

@ipfishing1466 2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate yes I do know Henny street I fish down street from the Billericay stretch on the LAA stretch and get some nice roach out of there when the river is right, I have always wanted to fish your stretch as there is a lot of trees for cover and a nice bit of flow there so I think it can hold some good fish.

Lovely video again. Just out of curiosity do you use No 8 shots all the way up and enough to cock the float. Or do you have a bulk shot as well?
@ipfishing1466
@ipfishing1466 2 жыл бұрын
I tend to keep the No 8s half way up the rig for les tangle’s on casting and if the float needs a bit more weight then I double up the No 8s nearer to the float and even put a few No 8s bulked together right under the stem of the float, but if I want the rig to get down in the water quick then I will use a bulk half way down with no 8s below it that’s for a stick float rig, with bolo or Avon floats I use an Olivette usually about 2 foot from the hook with 3 No 8s just below hope this helps.

Lovely bit of trotting. I struggle to hold a float back without it coming off it’s line and heading towards my bank when I’m fishing any sort of distance past my rod tip. I see you’re holding the rod high but do you have any other advice about this? Do you overshot the float? Cheers Ian
@ipfishing1466
@ipfishing1466 2 жыл бұрын
Just make sure that you are using a long enough rod for the distance that you are fishing and yes keep your rod tip high but most important make sure that you are letting out enough line as it is going down the river and don't let your line touch the water if possible. Hope this helps I may do a video on this as you are not the first person to ask me this question,

Very good Ian, hope the new Daiwa lives as long as the Abu’s 💪Sounded as if line was starting to freeze in rings, a proper roach n dace day, that would be round by us. If only the rivers were within there banks😱thanks for sharing

@ipfishing1466
@ipfishing1466 2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate yes I fish Bures on the LAA stretch,one thing I will say is check your water levels I find it fishes better when there’s a good bit of water in it you will pick up a lot of roach and chub but there also is a lot of jack pike around.

Great Video Ian, its a pleasure to watch your calm approach.. I use a TDR too but have considered purchasing a Ninja, do you still rate these reels? Also what bank stick is that you use?
@ipfishing1466
@ipfishing1466 11 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed, I’ve been using the ninja reel a while now and it turned out to be a great reel I have done thousands and thousands of trots down the river and still no signs of it wearing away, as for the bank stick it’s an old alloy stick which I’ve had for years and I don’t think that you can buy them anymore

I use the edge tackle float mono it’s a great line and doesn’t twist up like a lot of lines it’s the best line I’ve found in a while. You can watch a video on KZbin on the development of the line just type in edge tackle line.

nice video rivers are special wild fish ,wild waters ,i use center pins with dave harral floats ,you can,t stick float fish with a fixed spool, properly ,because you have loose line.. yes you can check it but it happens again as soon as the float starts running,,...with a center pin your tight to the float all the time,a flick of the wrist and your in, so roach dace quick biting fish you hit more bites ,i spent two seasons on rivers and never took a fixed spool reel so i had to use the pin .best fishing there is..as the float pulls line from a pin the drum turns with it keeping the line tight or thumb pressure on the drum slows the float down to half speed or quarter or third ,you can not do that with a fixed spool reel .you are just waggler fishing with a stick float,,give it a try its superb .tight lines.
@ipfishing1466
@ipfishing1466 2 жыл бұрын
Don’t agree with that at all mate I can keep a float going in a straight line on the widest of rivers far bank with the right rod and still catch roach and you could not cast a Center pin that far and I can also back wind to slow the float down and I have fished rivers foe 30 years with success with this method
@charleskemmett2807
@charleskemmett2807 2 жыл бұрын
You can't fish the farbank and keep on line with a center pin ,as when the line tightens to the drum of the reel the float will kite across the river, reading your comments it obvious that you know nothing about trotting a river, if you want to meet me and put your skills to the test against mine on any river, say with a couple of bob on it bring it on or keep your stupid garbish to your self
@stephenisom6089
@stephenisom6089 2 жыл бұрын
@@ipfishing1466 you can cast i use a wallace cast but the updated version ,i have used fixed spool reels for years there ok but not the control of center pins most anglers have never used one and parrot what they have read or heard .for example people say it takes ages to reel in using a pin and those tiny handles ..thats what they have heard ,you dont you sweep the rod back taking 30 feet of line on a 15ft rod and spin the reel fast ,its quicker than a fixed spool .if i were fishing way over a biggish river then i would use a waggler and fixed spool as it makes no difference ,im not saying you but it tends to be anglers who have never seen let alone used one who comment how could they ever know ..i wish you well tight lines.
