This scene is so emotionally triggering for me personally. I had this same exact conversation with a group of close friends of mine not too long ago. They pretty much did the same thing to me in the sense that I tried to show them my hospitality and they didn't keep the same energy. Rejection and ostracization are not cool, especially when it's people who are supposed to be your friends and family.
