I was 18, leather jacket, jeans and a Norton motorbike, not a worry in the world, on an apprenticship with a Ford main dealer and enjoying life, great times

I was 20 and was just finishing my 5 year day release apprenticeship in a multi make garage, saving up for a new Capri GT for £1325.00. Great times and great cars.

Agreed - modern vehicles are so damn ugly. As are many modern roads and streets etcetera.

Looked like a singer Gazelle in front. Brought back memories of my dads Singer where we would all sit in the back as kids. No seatbelts and crossply tyres, and headlamps like torch bulbs. But we all survived listening to medium wave on the radio fading in and out of the station.

We spent many happy hours in Weston in the 70s/80s used to travel from Poole and stayed in bed and breakfast. Have not been since around 2012 when delivering furniture from Ireland.

Only 7 years before the glorious 80's,and 50 before covid lockdowns, future smart city's ,A I and the coming demise of the motor car. Somebody please hurry up and invent a time machine.
@JakeJacobMusic11 ай бұрын
I already own a time machine. It will be fifty years old this year. It's a 2 seater, 2.8 litre sports car with no power steering, no antilock brakes, no traction control; no computers & no spy cameras onboard. It's very loud, smells of fuel and puts a huge grin on my face every time I start it up and take it out for a blast on the roads. 'F' smart cities, the WEF, A.I, political correctness, invading holiday makers in little boats, fake plandemics, Bill Gates and everything else that's destroying our freedom & our lives. Hit the roads & live free like it's 1973 👍

Glorious 80s?
@GrenvilleBS10 ай бұрын
The demise of the motor car? The “glorious 80s” properly began the destruction of our town & city centres, with their still ongoing development of car dependent retail/leisure/work parks, with acres of free level parking. They removed the crowds we see in this film. Cars wont be done away with any time soon.

The Centre in Bristol with grass people could sit on. Also the Italian Gardens in WSM with grass. No obese people or teenage twits outside McDonald's. Woolworths, The Coop, M and S the list goes on all now out of WSM and Broadmead.

People wore proper clothes in those days rather than the rubbish anoraks/hoodies/jogger pants that are worn now ( not by me). Also people wore proper shoes not 'trainers' or plimsolls as we called them. The cars were rot-boxes on wheeels mindyou - I had one! Now the cars last years longer., Interesting site.

Very few now dress or behave with dignity - Grandpa in bright nylon sports gear looks ridiculous. Apart from which nice materials such as cotton, wool, cashmere, leather - make clothes comfortable and beautiful. As for cars, they don't rust like they did but at least you could repair them with a welder and sheet steel from an old washing machine. Now once the value falls below the price of some ECU the car is scrap.
