I have an X1 with the 3.5 drive. I also have a 2012 M3. I use my X1 as a daily driver and my M3 for fun. I won't say that the X1 will necessarily compare to the M3, but it also cost almost half. The X1 however is a lot of fun to drive and to get that type of performance out of an X5 or X6 you have to get the 5.0 engine. The reason I bought the X1 is I like to have the power and torque for daily driving as I live in the Bay area and take the freeways everywhere and it's fun to go really fast :) But I also like the ability to have the hatchback so I can carry golf clubs in my travel bag or take the dog to the vet if I need to, which I can't do in a sedan or my M3. The X1 is not necessarily a track car......well maybe if you didn't have an M3 as it does have a lot of torque and I can get it to drift pretty easily. But it's a lot of fun to drive for a daily driver, gets reasonable fuel economy if you don't engage the turbo all the time (like I do).

We've just bought an off-lease BMW Certified 2013 X1 sDrive328 and are delighted with it. Its admittedly bulbous shape gets maximum interior volume from a very compact wheelbase. And it's not too tall either, which really helps with fuel economy. The rear-drive 4-cylinder without the M sport package is the way to go. (This is an urban runabout, not a sports car.) The wood and leather are expensive and low quality. Avoid them but be sure to get the back-up camera. The moon roof is expensive but it bathes the car in light. Americans tend to think bigger is better. But this baby Bimmer with the seats down can carry nearly everything you would lug around in the real world. And it is SO much more economical and easier to drive than the X3. When it comes to compact crossovers, small is beautiful. A word of warning: Avoid the 2016 and later X1. It is a completely different vehicle, built on a Mini platform. As a result you end up with front wheel drive and a choppy ride.

0-60 should be 6.0 stock with brake boost launch in cool weather. Why do people think these are ugly? I think it's nice.

X1's steering and power is not comparable: you feel the road and turns, as opposed to pure power-steering vehicle which is numb and disconnected.

Because the NHTSA and DOT don't allow flashing lights under emergency braking scenarios. It's the same reason why the hazard lamps don't activate when the emergency brake assist system kicks in, but several manufacturers program their cars to do this in other parts of the world, just not in the US.

Is there major difference from old x1 and new x1 ? especially hard steering on the old one ?

How does the x1 fall short in driving dynamics compared to a 3 series? is it the higher center of gravity?

Most sold version in the Netherlands X1 S-drive, 2WD and 1.8 ltr engine ... and driving for cruising, why should you use it for sportive driving, when it is not even possible on the dutch excellent roads, no mountains here ;)

Why is the emergency stop signal (heavy braking) in the US just an extra pair of solid brake lights? Everywhere else it is the brake lights rapidly flashing

u have to realize that, although its very expensive objectively, ure getting a 3 series wagon with a turbo inline six for 40k - the equivalent 335i would cost at least 5k more and the same engine is in the much heavier 80k 640i

the pricing of the x1 with the 3.0 turbo is amazing... around 40k. i just have to decide whether i can get over the looks of the thing

So you could call this a 3-series wagon, or 1-series wagon. I'm sure this could compete with the audi all road.

Euro brands should bring watered-down versions of all of their models. That way, this monstrosity wouldn't cost $50K fully loaded. That'll never happen.
