It's probably a waste of time to write this but I've owned both Ford and Chevy trucks and nothing beats the Chevy for all around usage. I have a 2011 ExtCab LTZ 4X4 w/a 6.2L V8 and no truck I've ever owned compares - period. I'll be buying another truck next year and look forward to test driving all of them. I'll be truly impressed if something beats what I have!

This would be what I would buy when the time comes. I had a 1995 Silverado Extended Cab, 350 engine. Over 400,000 miles. I sold it and the guy that bought it is still driving it. Bought a 2005 Silverado 4 door in ‘07 with 70,000 miles at the time. It couldn’t be financed so I got a great deal. It’s an LS with the bulletproof 5.3 engine. I’m at 200,000 miles and the only thing I’ve replaced is a battery and a water pump. The water pump was only $130 and I was able to finish the job in right under an hour. They make these trucks really easy to work on

I've owned several Fords but I've been highly disappointed with the VCT 5.4.... amongst other issues (which all seem to be common problems). My 04 and 07 F150s were just horrible trucks. I love Ford's styling but I've found more reliability and less maintenance with GM's simple OHV engines. Working on my OHC F150 is a nightmare compared to GMs OHV. I hope Ford has vastly improved them....the 97-03 truck was very solid.

I don't have the sales for Canada for the Silverado, but in the US in 2012, Ram sold 290,000 trucks. In the US in 2012, Chevy sold 418,000 trucks. But, if you count in the Sierra as well which is a similar truck, the sales jump to a total of 575,000.

Those are sales in 2012. We are no where near done with the year 2013 so total sales have no been released. For Ram to make such a dramatic jump in sales or for Chevy to make such a dramatic decrease in sales in just one year is highly unlikely and next to impossible.

Other them regular maintenance I can honestly say I can get another 100 k miles easily, I've changed the o2 sensors and starter I've had to change 2 times.. That's most likely because in Canada, a 1500 starts at under $20,000 while a Silverado starts at over $30,000. It most likely has nothing to do with which truck is better, but which one they can afford.

I've owned Chevys in the past (Tahoe, suburban) never owned a Ram truck tho. I think the 2014 GMC Sierra looks better than the silverado tho for sure. My next truck will be a F150 FX4 or Lariat .. That's pretty fair....it still pays to listen to the working world though. Most that I talk with tow these trucks daily. Fuel returns are not good and several with constant waste gate issues (a cable trench company in particular). I think maybe the issue here is that they should have bought diesels instead of the ecoboost (trying to save money). Ecoboost maybe be a great occasional hauler but maybe not meant to tow heavy loads everyday.

Did anyone else find that the driver's seat wasn't exactly inline with the steering wheel? I liked my 2014, but that always annoyed me. I traded it for a 2002 Hummer H1, and that 6.5L TD, to spite being old, would pull CIRCLES around the 5.3, even though the H1 weighs 7.000 pounds alone. The 5.3 was faster, but the 6.5 runs the same speed regardless of what you put behind it.

It's tough cross shopping these trucks because they package so differently and price varies dramatically when you spec them. The Ford ecoboosts seem problematic after warranty and the 3.5na is under-powered compared to the GM 4.3 V6. I'm a fan of the Ford 5.0 which sounds good but not as efficient as the GM 5.3. Trucks are more prone to body damage and steel is cheaper to repair. The RAM is built in Mexico and Hemi engines not efficient but sound really good but I have little faith in Dodge reliability. So many decisions to consider and it's actually great to have these choices. With year end discounts of up to 10k it;s a good time to buy. I like the Silverado 5.3.
@RobertSmith-le8wp
@RobertSmith-le8wp 6 жыл бұрын
igotwhips agree about the 5.3. I have an ‘05 with 200,000 miles. In all that time I only had to replace the water pump. I was able to replace it myself in just under an hour. My Dad has a King Ranch F150 with the 5.0. It sounds great and is fast but is also much more complex. The thing that drew me to the 5.3 was it’s simplicity. It still uses a traditional cam in block, has an iron block, 4 bolt mains, etc. it’s just an incredibly robust design. In all the time I’ve had it the truck has never even thrown a check engine light. My Dad’s 2012 F150 has needed several sensors replaced and seems to be throwing a check engine light all the time. In its defense I don’t think it’s ever left him stranded though

an aluminum hood ? no thanks, if I purchase a vehicle I prefer that the whole entire vehicle be made of steel including the engine block and chassis.

So you want steel just because it's steel? That's silly.

KiloByte72 The reason I would prefer steel is because it's the most common and abundant of metals produced and thus for helps to maintain jobs and support an industry when used for auto manufacturers and other businesses. Another reason is because steel is known to be a little stronger and a heavier metal than aluminum, that's why I want any vehicle that I purchase to be made of it. Aluminum on the other hand is a lightweight metal used for specific purposes. The Italian auto maker Ferrari for example uses aluminum to make their cars because the company once intended for their cars to be solely used for racing only, before Enzo Ferrari the company's founder decided in 1947 to make his cars available for purchase to the general public rather than just specifically for racers. Ferrari is a car company in which started out as making racing cars only and thus needed the light weight material to ensure the cars performance ability because of it's origin and heritage based on an emphasis on speed and performance that still persists with the company today. Even though their cars are made available for purchase to a broad audience today, they didn't start out that way. Other auto makers such as Ford specifically made some specialty models of their cars to be used for Nascar racing in which most of the cars structure was made of aluminum. One such example is their 1963 Ford Thunderbolt if I remember the name of it correctly, this specific car that was manufactured by Ford was just basically a hot rod Ford Galaxy but by another name. The car's body was made of aluminum as well as the chassis and engine if I'm not mistaken whereas the regular Ford Galaxies that were mass produced for the general public of that year were made of steel. So, as you can see, aluminum is a lightweight metal that's used for speed and performance, that's why most high performance car companies with a racing heritage use it to make their cars. Since I'm not a racer nor interested in speed but just want to get from point A to point B that's all and not having any desire to put the pedal to the metal, I don't see any need to have an aluminum vehicle or any part of it made of aluminum, so steel would be just fine for any vehicle that I purchase to serve it's purpose when I'm shopping for one. Now you understand.

Dodge is the better of the truck. It looks better, rides like a sports car, and can tow more then any of these other trucks with that cummins engine. I know so many people who have owned Fords for years who have switched to Dodge.
