"Many Japanese still profess their belief in Shinto" -- I think this is a statement that does not acurately portray contemporary Japan. I would like to see some evidence to back this claim up.

I know, but that doesn't change anything. He plainly says that his family is not religious and he was not brought up/raised upon buddhism. and the narrator (almost immediately contradicts him. The problem here is that the narrator is trying to explain his family's (father's) and society's opposition to religious differences which is easy but not entirely correct. There is a much more complicated and subtle dynamic going on here.

Right after kubuto san finishes explaining that his family was not religous in anyway, the narrator contradicts him by saying, "Like many Japanese Kubuto san was brought up in the spiritual traditions of shinto and buddhism" (which is also not true.) I think this is an informative mini-documentary, but they cling on to the false notion that Japan is an overtly religious nation.
