@@natanhockenstein53 the assumption is that he’s refering to orpheus. The way I see it, he’s referring to orpheus’s hope in setting things right. Saw him and the show in February of ‘20 just before the shutdown. I know what you mean. Both he and the show are stunning. There are no words to convey the emotion. Will see the national tour soon with Levi Kreis as Hermes who I believe is brilliantly cast.

"But we sing it anyway" - that line just destroyed me! I was sobbing so hard in a silent theater ... And then "Because here's the thing: to know how it ends, and still begin to sing it anyway ..." - utter destruction. I can't even talk about it weeks later without tearing up. I saw Jon Jon Briones as Hermes and he was so fantastic. What an incredibly beautiful statement on hope. I loved this so much.
@jennifergoebel23074 ай бұрын
I saw Jon Jon in April and I came into this show unaware of the ending (I prefer to do that if I can) and I was not prepared at all for the emotional reaction I had to this bittersweet ending. I think it gives all the emotions for a few reasons: 1. Actors talents and giving their all to their performance 2. The story brings up the emotions of time and how all stories should be told even if they are sad. 3 Orpheous is really all of us, we think we can get where we need to be without looking back, but it's impossible. I cannot watch this last scene without crying still.

I wish i could’ve had the chance to see Andre De Shields as Hermes live. Don’t get me wrong, Lillias is incredible and provides her own, unique interpretation that is simply a joy to watch, but there is just something so special about Andre’s Hermes. Something that can’t be recreated. I feel the same about Amber Gray’s Persephone. Ah well. Even if i may never get to see my most favoured cast, seeing hadestown live at all someday would be plenty enough!!

i'm very glad that you had the chance to see this wonderful production at all!
@codykimmel2 жыл бұрын
Indeed. I've seen them both in the role, and Lillias is absolutely incandescent. But seeing deShields is powerful in a very different way - you feel it right down to the marrow. Great role for both of them, and I'm so happy for them both that they got to play this incredible part in their seventies.

Hoping to see Lillias at some point, but Andre deShield's performance in Hadestown is one of the top 3 live theater performances I've ever seen. And I'm old --I've seen a lot. 😂

I'll be back to see it again in June, I'm sure I will love Lillias in the role, but my god Andre just absolutely emanates stage presence and charisma, every movement he makes, the audience is in the palm of his hand, like with any great storyteller. I will never forget being able to see him in this show twice last March, and I just hope to the gods that a full pro-shoot exists somewhere with the OBC for future release!

In my freshman year of high school I was heavily involved in my school’s theatre department. Every year the theatre department does some sort of field trip and we went to see Hadestown at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. I remember being really invested in the story and then we got to this part. You can’t truly understand the power of this scene unless you have seen it yourself in person. It’s insane to think that with no background music and with Hermes’ tone of voice becoming all choked up, they can turn a lively fun song into something absolutely gut-wrenching.

I will never forget the day I finally saw this incredible show on broadway, I had become obsessed with the soundtrack just before and during lockdown, and cursing my bad luck that I never knew about it when it was in the UK, but my god nothing can compare to seeing the full production in all its glory, I was an emotional wreck from the first notes, and was utterly inconsolable by the end! I loved it so much I went back to the Walter Kerr the next morning to get another ticket for the Sunday matinee, I could have seen it another 10 times and still been absolutely in love with it! I hope to god that a) it's still in NY when I visit next summer, and b) it eventually makes its way back to the UK soon.

A small note about the moment at 4:44, where Persephone touches Hermes' chin. Mythologically (in the most widely accepted mythological "canons," anyway), they're both the children of Zeus, meaning they're technically siblings. With that context, Persephone's affection and Hermes' little start away from her are very cute and funny.

Is this me or has Jewelle switched harmonies with Jessie during We raise our cups? I know that Eurydice's harmony is very close to Persephone's and if I remember well, with that song Eurydice has the lower harmony.
