My wife is from Quito and we are going back to visit in November. We expect to retire there. It’s such a beautiful country and I know you are going to miss it.

Yeah, it was incredibly hard to leave my perfect little life in the Andes Mountains and face the reality of living in the US. Pretty soon I’ll make a video about the reverse culture shock.

That area between tena & quito reminds me of colorado. So much green and lots of waterfalls
@FallofftheMap3 ай бұрын
Funny, the landscapes in Afghanistan reminded me of Colorado, especially around Grand Junction and up near the Wyoming border. Road between Tena and Quito reminds me of Washington and the transition from rain forest to high desert.

I agree. There's a huge difference between southern CO and the rockies

Can tell you will really miss it. I've been twice and love Ecuador. Lucky to have a lot of family so feels different than being a tourist.

Thanks. Yeah, it kind of breaks my heart to leave. Having family in Ecuador definitely makes the experience different… makes it easier to feel at home there.

It's really interesting to see you comment this road on your way back. I remember when I landed to Quito for the first time, I did this road down to Tena and even though I had a 27 hours travel en 4 different flights from Montreal, I was so amazed by these landscapes I couldn't sleep. So amazing to see it with a new sight again. Thanks for sharing, I wish you very good success in your new job.

Thanks. It’s good to be reminded of how others experience this road. It’s been long enough it’s hard to remember my wonder and awe at first seeing these landscapes.

Yes, all of the sudden we have the pleasure of your good videos. So, kind of where are your where abouts in the Andes? In Quito? I ask cause, your stories when you do them are amazing. Smart dude, smart choices.

Damn ... loved the video. I am going to miss your videos in general because your take on most things align with my own. Also enjoy the fact that you are an electrician- Dad was an electrician as well as a life long childhood friend who still is in the field. I loved sharing some of the more outlandish power line nightmares with him and forgive the pun but it never fails to shock him. What are you doing with the properties when you are gone? I have had known people to return to EVERYTHING being taken when they were gone for extended periods only to find it all at their neighbors house when they went to ask if they had seen anything or anyone on their property.

Appears the price for a night at Kopal has doubled. 🤔
@FallofftheMap3 ай бұрын
Interesting. Are you looking at the per person price? If you change it to one person rather than two is it back to $25? It’s been a couple years since I stayed there so I’m genuinely curious.
@perfectlylonely3 ай бұрын
@@FallofftheMap ...I entered Nov. 16th to the 20th for one person. Before I left the 2 person default. The price dropped from $52 a night to $40. Inflation 😄
@FallofftheMap3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info. Pretty steep price increase since I was last there a couple years ago. I didn’t pre-book but rather walked in and asked. Given the stagnant growth in prices in tourism in Ecuador for obvious reasons I suspect you can still walk and negotiate $25 per night per person but I could be wrong. It’s definitely a nice enough place to be worth more than that in a reasonable economy.
@perfectlylonely3 ай бұрын
@@FallofftheMap ...I really need to try skipping the pre-booking and attempting to get a better nightly rate at reception. Thanks. Enjoy your new adventure in the States.
@FallofftheMap3 ай бұрын
@@perfectlylonely in Ecuador you can usually get better rates by negotiating the price in person. It’s beginning to change as more people get accustomed to booking online but especially in more rural areas a lot of the hotels can’t even be booked online.
