The hotel had someone else not show up so our room did not kick anyone out of a place to stay. I hope I don't sound ungrateful in any way... I wish I would have gotten footage of the hotel to show you. There was even a hole in the bath tub 😳 I did wipe everything down with Clorox wipes and not a drop of dirt on the wipes so the hotel was doing the best job they could do with what they had.

Great video. I drove from Anchorage to Valdez summer of 2019. The most beautiful drive hands down. Keystone Canyon is a special treat with amazing waterfalls and rivers flowing. The Bridal Veil Falls is majestic. Valdez is a gorgeous small town thats in the middle of nowhere that makes it so special. Views and attractions are priceless. Love Alaska❤

Funny that when I talk to people that have lived here all of their lives, they really don't travel in Alaska much. I make it a point to go as much as I can. Valdez is by far my favorite place. I am a little spoiled because I have friends that I can stay with when I go down. Sorry you had issues with the hotel, I couldn't imagine with a whole family how scary that was. Beautiful footage 😍

Valdez is one of my favorite places in Alaska. I think it just has a different landscape when driving through Thompson Pass to Valdez…than a lot of other places in Alaska….and then getting into the town of Valdez and seeing all those wild rabbits/bunnies all around the town. Man it was just so awesome. I love bunnies so much so I just ate that up while we were there. And I remember my ex and I went charter fishing in Valdez and caught our max fish… and it was just the time of our lives and spending a couple days at a campground and exploring the town life around was amazing. It was awesome. I’m from Anchorage to this day and I still have yet to explore so much of Alaska…Even having been here for over 20 years. This is so awesome.

Was that bridal veils falls that you showed before you hit Valdez? The drive is just so insanely beautiful. After passing Worthington glacier and then going through the mountains that are so tall and seeing so many waterfalls. It’s so breathtaking. I love it. I can’t wait to go there again.

Yep, it happens. I was traveling from northern NY state to Indiana to visit my son and family a few years ago. My daughter, her two sons(one a newborn)and my lab dog. We had a room booked 3 weeks ahead and confirmed. After a 12 hour drive we are exhausted, get to hotel only to be told they gave our room to someone else because they couldn't reach us by phone. Well, shocker, we're driving. Checked the call log, there was no call. I threw a stink about driving all day to visit my grandkids that I can only see once a year to find out we don't have a reserved room!! I was so pissed. They had no other rooms, it's 9:00pm, they had tried to find rooms at other local hotels, but none available. The staff was able to move some other guests to other rooms so we could have the double room we had booked for 1 week at a cost of just over $1000. Thanks for bringing us along, the scenery is beautiful. Have fun.

I can’t believe you have lived here so long and have only been on the Richardson once. 😯 it’s one of my favorite drives in Alaska. And I don’t know if you know the history of where you were staying. It is rough around the edges because it was built as the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) during the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. It was never meant to be long term or a hotel. I know the outcome of your trip since we chatted when you were there. So glad things turned around. ☺️

It was SO interesting to see the pipeline! Thanks for covering that. Ya know, we've all had to stay at a less than par motel/hotel in our lives, but it beats sleeping in the vehicle! I can't wait to see the rest of this series on Valdez. All I can think of is the great tragedy and I wonder how it's all come out in the end. Thanks for a great vid! :)

Man that's really sad the hotel people did that. :/ but I'd say next time do more digging for hotels. That's my advice but aside that it looks great so far and I can't wait to see more of Valdez. :D

Oh my goodness, the beauty...the waterfall, I just can’t get over it. I can hardly wait for the next video. As for the hotel, I feel your pain. I’m a bit of a hotel snob but in my defense I worked in hotels for a lifetime and know the good and the bad. As for them not having a room, that’s very common. The chain I worked for our rule was 10% overbook. You have to figure in the cancellation etc. If you had a reservation, which you did, then it’s the hotels responsibility to find you another hotel. Our chains rules were at least, if not better hotel, we pay for that night, and if you were coming back to our hotel the following day we’d pick up a meal for the family. P.S. love the mustard in the cup holder 😂

The Totem is new anyway, it opened what 2018 or 2019...the old one burned down....so it probably would have been nicer than the hotel you were in.
