Road Trip & Things to do in Lapland, Finland

In search for the best winter spots Kristin & I went on a road trip through Lapland in Finland and checked out all the things to do in Lapland and it was magical!

I know it took a while to finish editing this video as I had to struggle with the 4k video data I got from my new toy: the drone. I'm now able to shoot lovely aerial footage to give you an even broader picture of the destination.
Our trip to finnish Lapland started in Rovaniemi with the visit of the Santa Claus village where we said hi to Santa himself and had some fun tubing and drinking at the ice bar in Snowman World.
Snowmobiling was a great way to start our second day & I would say it's one of the must dos in Lapland for sure!
Next stop was the area of Ylläs where we spent most of our time: ice sculpturing, snowshoeing, skiing, dog sledding, a reindeer safari, sauna and northern light sightings made this trip to once in a lifetime winter experience!

M. J. It is so amazing there I went yesterday (Tuesday) and I loved it! I do recommend you stay for two days as it will be tiring if you go on the airplane and leave on the same day you will be tired 💤 I did this and I was super tired 💤 I woke up at half three in the morning and got back the next day at 1:40 am. And we Finns escape to Thailand in winter :) I do agree, Lapland is something special in winter, spring (around March) is the best time to visit I think, still full winter but more sunlight and usually not too cold anymore. BackPackerSteve, thanks for the cool video!

Hi there. We've been to Lapland twice and your video was very comprehensive, so very much thumbs up! Couple of bits of personal advice for anyone considering a Lapland winter holiday. (1) If a holiday description refers to husky ride or safari, find out if you will have control of the sled, ie be able to stand at the back and use the brake, or if you're expected to sit and just be driven. We've done both, and much prefer driving ourselves - folk shouldn't worry because the dogs are really the ones in control and they'll follow the right route. The alternative - just sitting - can get very cold! Same goes for reindeer safari - you'll probably be sitting, almost on the ground, so wrap up extra well. (2) Doing snowshoe walking is great because the snow is deep and pristine. But it is very very tiring - be fairly fit! (3) Sometimes just walk on a path into the woods and just enjoy the peace and quiet. (4) Don't bank on seeing the aurora - regard it as a bonus if you do. We've seen some nice green glows but never the full dancing skies. It's a fabulous holiday to do either way. Thanks again for a great video.

Me an my family we go to Lappland every year because we have our own cottage. We go to Ruka Kuusamo instead of Rovaniemi. I can’t even tell how much I love Finland. The worst part is that it’s like a 12 hour drive from the south part of Finland to the Northern part of Finland.

Well..in that case it took some time to heat it up..so we started with 70°. In the gondola we had 100 from the beginning and there's no escape ;)

70C is is pleasant. Commonly sauna in Finland is heated from 70C to 90C. Hot sauna is over 100C degrees, I don't find it comfortable any more. What temperature is good depends on how big the steam room is and is it moist or dry air. I do hear that where it is not in the culture, and people don't do it so often, it's often left underheated, under 70C, which is a pity and a mistake. 40C - 60C barely makes you sweat.
