I can't believe you guys were totally unprepared it's like you never saw freezing rain before no heat no defrosters no extra help on defrosting sitting on the side of the road is the worst thing you can do in a ice storm. Did that trip one Christmas in my 76 Grand Prix and the breaker at the motel in Hearst,Ont. kicked out for the block heater at -45C. Big fun most of the next day getting it going.

There’s a spot near Red Deer where there’s a crazy crosswind. I was going up to Edmonton last winter, the road looked bare and dry. I had my truck in 2WD, then a crosswind kicked the backend out. Sideways across both lanes at 110. Rather than overcorrect and hit the ditch sideways I brought it around and just barely steering into the ditch…. Shifted down, hit the 4WD, and steered back on the road. First stop was WalMart for new ginch.

I'm going to have to call the authorities for putting that poor car through the Canadian winter. It needs to come live with me in North Alabama. I grew up south of Windsor, Ontario and my friend's mom had a '71 Chevelle (base). Base model or not, I loved this car - even in the factory brown.

Bad idea. I've done it twice except from east to west. From Niagara falls in August and then January. Both great adventures, obviously summer was better. It took 48 hrs with a 79 T/A in January.
