I have been trying to help a subscriber through instagram messages for over a year with no luck so he brought his car down so we could try to figure out the starting issue.

Dave, MOST decent aftermarket scanners come with OEM specific diagnostic plugs....a lot of these have external auxiliary power leads for the very issue you cited about not being able to scan without the ignition system being able to reach the accessory position. Even if the scanner did NOT come with the OEM specific plugs you can always add 12v+ power to the ALDL/OBD2 port under the dash which will in effect bring all the modules online as if the ignition WAS in the accessory position. i ordered a 10ft OBD2 extension cable(OBD2 male on one end and OBD2 female on the other) from Amazon for about $5 and spliced in a 2pin connector on the 12v+ and the 12v- line. For that connector i made a simple 2 wire 15' harness with alligator clips on one end and the matching connector on the other so that i could(when needed) connect the OBD2 extension harness from the OBD2 port to the scanner and then attach the 2 wire harness and connect the other end directly to the battery. (in a salvage yard we all know that you have access to all kinds of matching multi-pin weatherpac connections at your disposal). This will allow you to use your scanner to scan/diag a vehicle that wont go into accessory as all the modules will be awake and accessible. This has come in handy for me on God only knows how many occasions when customer vehicles were dead in the water where they sat and would have otherwise required being towed to a dealership for what could have been a super simple $2 on-site repair. I had the same issue on my 06 charger rt. Fob not detected. The keyfob may need re-vinned with the ecu to allow power to pass through the ignition system, activating body control module and coils/injectors ...with my keys,it's different but I hope this helps. ****my fix was buying a flash masters programed ecu bypassing the keyfob/security which made it detected****** It started up easily....... Lost some security features...

Even holding the key fob up to the start button it won't go into accessory mode? Sounds like there should be a key fob sensor under the console or in the dash letting the car know the key is in the car. If you hold the fob to the push start it should atleast get you to acc.

I can't understand why people cut all these wires, they are so easy to unplug. Cars from the 80s and back are simpler but a bitch to unplug and pull the harnesses. I've done several hemi, and scat pak swaps, the biggest problem was getting it programmed. The easiest were the ones that I had 2 cars side by side. The Magnum swap was ok except for the rear wiper,

I was curious as to how often you change the trans fluid on a ZF torqueflight? Dodge says it's good for the life of the car, but ZF says it needs to be changed. With my friends car kind of shifting weird at 50k it probably needs to be changed.

His car was definitely molested not a fun project when every wire was cut for some reason. Wiring is a nightmare when you don't know where wires go and to have multiple wires cut makes it even worse!
