I run the front facing Cycliq and a Garmin radar at the back. I’ve reported successfully quite a few idiot drivers close passes with the footage. This is a really good investment for any cyclist

I've had the fly12 sport for nearly 2 yrs. It's great. I've submitted a few near misses and never had an issue with reading numberplates. I love that I have a light and camera in one. That i only have to press the power button and the light and camera is turned on together. Recently it froze, customer support was great even though out of warranty. I managed to fix it with factory reset but they were prepared for me to return it to them and then send me a replacement.

I’ve Rode with the rear camera for a few years now. I had a Recent replacement under warranty and Cycliq replaced it no problems. It gives me added confidence on the road. I Ride to expect the worst behaviour its saved my life a few times. Some drivers do see it’s a camera and back off sometimes. Though I Still get close passes 🙄For me if I have an accident from the rear I have proof. Run time approx 4 hours old version. I’ll upgrade to the new one soon.

@markotrieste
@markotrieste 2 күн бұрын
@Thezuule1 Nope. I don't listen to music. However, turning head - you can't do it as often as you check a mirror. It's a matter of situational awareness. It's not enough to check if there is a car when you decide to check, it is necessary to see the whole "movie". Simple physics: to know the speed of an object, you have to check at least twice. And this has to be done for each passing car, plus all the times where you need to be sure that there is no car, even if you don't hear anything. Plus, you need to also see if the incoming car is driving straight, is aggressive or defensive, etc. I'd rather ride without a helmet than without a mirror.
@Thezuule1
@Thezuule1 2 күн бұрын
@@markotrieste by the time I see a car in a tiny mirror swerving to hit me it's probably too late already. Keeping my ears and eyes open is at least enough to know there's a vehicle there. To each their own but seriously wear your helmet. A mirror likely won't stop you from getting hit and a helmet might at least save your life when you do.

I had both fly 12 and a rear facing version. Both lasted justed over two years. The company were very hard to engage with. The rear heated up on charging and got so hot I took it off charge and the front justgave up. When it worked it was great but very expensive and really shoddy customer service. If you read lots of reviews on different videos this is not an unusual experience. I did not have the versions referred to in this video so they may have resolved this issues now

The limits with the Fly6 is that If it’s not on tight you can’t see the reg plates as no amount of stabilisation will compensate for massive camera shake. Took me a couple of spins to find the correct fitting on my aero seat post. The battery is great, even after 4hr ride still had juice. I charge everything after every spin, why take the chance. The picture is seriously sharp, only when the sun is directly behind you it’s very hard to see reg plates but this is the same for all cameras. On many occasion I could still make out the reg with the fly6 when the sun was at a slight angle. I’m now going to invest in the front light as there are situations that you do need both units to have complete confidence on the roads. I don’t part with money very easily when it comes to new tech but happy I did. 9/10

I have a Fly12 sport and it works well after one replacement unit. You can’t use the app to review footage filmed on the front camera. I have a garmin 715 RTC. I believe the new rear cycliq would be better than the Garmin recording quality wise. Plus you can review footage on the app of the rear camera. Something that is rubbish on the Garmin. But the Garmin has radar which I wouldn’t be without.

They work great on the road. I had the OGs, super heavy and kinda sucked. The next gen worked much better, but the cameras are shit at night, so if you commute in the dark they're useless. I don't know if they've updated the option, but it was annoying not being able to turn off the camera at night in order to get more battery life. An Insta360 (good lowlight video) with an Outbound light might be better for night riding. Need to give it a test.

My biggest problem with the fly12 is that the front light is blending, no hi/lo beam option. Battery life of the fly6 is abysmal. However, especially for commute, I always use them both.

just remember that from a legal perspective, cameras can be a double edged sword... they can be used to prove that you did something wrong just as easily as they can prove that somebody else did something wrong, and if you did something wrong and delete the footage but the other person noticed you had "dash cams" that can not only hurt your case, by making you look more guilty, but you've also destroyed evidence which is a crime in itself. hypothetical you get hit while crossing against a traffic signal, not uncommon since a lot of signals don't get triggered by bicycles, but still against the law, your cameras will show that you crossed while the signal was red.

Have you tried if it can continue to work (record video) while charging? Because if you are like me mostly just commuting but occasionaly do an 8+ hour ride then just having some powerbank with you for those extra long rides would give you to choice to keep using it all day at the cost of a little additional weight carried with you.
@greg4318

The camera is a reactive safety feature only (allows reporting)- anyone who thinks that car drivers etc will notice that your rear light is a camera and modify their behaviour are deluding themselves to justify the purchase. The fact that so many near misses are still being recorded is proof that the camera offers nothing in terms of proactive safety. You would be better spending money on a brighter rear and front light to make yourself more visible.

I've used these before. From the early sets. My front light/camera finally died after about 7 years. I was really happy with it. It is only a battery issue, I only have about 3 hours of battery life now. The back light/camera's however are garbage. I have gone thru 4 of them in the same period. They ALWAY suffer a software failure that bricks the whole unit. Cycliq also does not seem keen to resolve any issues. It is always the unit has died, you need to buy a new one. My last one died 10 month into owning it, and I refuse to buy another.

How do these save one from an accident ? Maybe they would be useful in a legal action but would the evidence even be accepted in a court proceeding ? Is time, location, recorded and accurate ?
