That point about diversity was absolutely important. Many more people should talk about this. I did not think I could love you any more but apparently I could. :D You are really amazing, thanks for this entire video and especially the diversity point. Blessings to you and your family from germany. One thing I want to add to this whole topic: Not only is Diamond a black, female non-vocalist metalhead, she's also not "standard body size" by any means. She would probably not ever appear in any "Hottest Metal Women Top 50" as you mentioned which is another barrier she's breaking. And just from this video alone (never heard of the band before) she has so much charisma and personality. I love it!

Sup! I was introduced to high school just as I was introduced to 90's grunge (and I'm sure yaz know about that era), and it was short lived for me and I strongly doubt it ever comes back. NU METAL comes around and I'm in love with music again, kinda went away as well but THESE KIDS! After me wife found em for me on youtube, I have once again fell in love with music cause they re-ignited a sound that I thought was again like Grunge, gonna be forgotten. So I'm way behind on discovering this band (and of course this video, so who knows if you'll actually see this), and as im doing a deep dive into their videos, your reaction came up - of course had to check it out since I always enjoy your reactions. Your talk about inclusivity with Diamond was definitely warranted, but you needed to add one more to the list, she black, she's a she, and she's PLUS SIZE. As a plus size metal chick myself, im not ashamed to say seeing her is what drew me into this band. It was actually an ad about her new guitar model that drew me in - I saw this gorgeous woman who was MY SIZE shredding and my immediate reaction was "WHAT 🤯." Representation IS important, and if you don't think it is, then you're most likely well represented. Thanks for the reaction and the insights as always, Tank! 🤘

I don't say my favorite male and then female, because she puts so many male vocalists to shame. My top 5 are probably 1. Jonathan Davis 2. Vicky Psarakis 3. James Hetfield 4. Corey Taylor 5. Helle Bogdanova. I get what Vicky is saying. Diamond is a beast on the guitar and I enjoy watching her shred. She is now one of my favorite guitarists.

I was cheering on your remarks about inclusiveness and the stupidly of making separate categories for females musicians based on looks etc. The only thing that does remotely make sense is looking at and comparing is the vocals, female voices just do mostly sound different to males. For me, it's like looking at guitars vs bases. That should not, of course, prevent someone of having a list of favourite singers both male and female.
@fullstackphoenix3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Female vocals are just different. But you cant tell on the instruments so that is just silly.
@starsword-c25343 жыл бұрын
Brittney Slayes said something when A&P Reacts interviewed her that stuck with me: she doesn't like the term "female-fronted metal" because it doesn't describe a band's music very well. Take UtA themselves: because of, you know, Nightwish and Epica, people tend to hear the term and think operatic symphonic metal, but they're a straight-up power metal band. And that's before getting to full-on melodeath acts like Arch Enemy and The Agonist, or an old-school heavy metal act like Burning Witches. And then on the flipside you have Powerwolf, which more and more is an operatic symphonic metal band but is an all-male group.

This is why I've come to love you and this channel, from this WI based metal head thanks Tank

Hahaha, yeah kinda weird. There is no reason why not. But i can understand the suprise, i mean i dont see many black people in metal. Ofcourse its entirely irrelevant what colour skin you have cool people are cool people.

@@themplar I guess to me that it would depend on where you are and what show(s) you go to. I just don't know why it has to be pointed out, because trust me every black an knows their aren't many of us at a lot of metal shows. Thanks for sharing your experience. I will admit, when I was younger and I was first getting into metal, I always found it fascinating to meet black people at shows or see black people in metal bands, because it was fairly uncommon. And especially in this day and age, you'd think it wouldn't be surprising anymore.

I just wanted to say thank you for talking about Diamond and representation, diversity and inclusivity in general. I absolutely agree it should be pointed out - and the way you spoke about it was both honest and respectful. I was a teenager in the 90's and got into grunge/punk/metal and absolutely loved it (and do to this day) but it was and is so massively male dominated. I remember when Kittie came along I was just so chuffed to see a buch of young women like myself up there rocking it. Obviously there is a long history of great female guitarists (and other musicians), but it is still in 2023 surprisingly rare to have a female guitarist - and a black woman in a metal band yeah, that is super rare and it shouldn't be that way. This matters because the more female guitar players we have, the more girls will be inspired to pick up a guitar. Something I've been thinking about a lot recently is the lack of diversity in Metal, which is especially odd because as you said, in general the metal community is so welcoming of differences, but that isn't necessarily translated into the bands which make it to getting signed etc. I would actually love to see you do a video on this topic if you felt like it??! Anyway sorry for the essay, it's just so great to hear someone say what you said, because it is hard being a female metal fan sometimes, and I can't imagine how harder that would be for a black woman. Looking forward to watching the interview with Diamond 🖤🖤 (ps shout out to Reba Meyers of Code Orange who I also recently discovered and is also an awsome guitar player!) 😁😁

Other bands bringing the nu metal sound back, Blind Channel (I know you’ve reacted to “Balboa” by them) and Chaoseum, check out their song “Smile Again”. 🤘🏻🙂

Just like Stich me up, Smile again resonates with me on a deep level and is an amazing piece of music.

So glad that you finally gave this band a listen cause personally I feel like they’re practically reviving the Nu-Metal genre which I’ve always felt got an unfair rep from people who either didn’t quite understand or thought it was other non-metal genres trying to invade metal and take it over. I’m also sure a lot of us was introduced to metal through the nu-metal bands of the late-90s/early 2000s. So this group feels like a real nostalgia trip which isn’t a bad thing. Their album might even be one of my favorites of the year too. When I first found this band, it was their song I’m Not Right that was my intro to the band, and I’m sure a lot of us first saw this band, and saw Diamond and was pleasantly surprised to see someone like her in a metal band cause it’s one of those, for lack of a better word, stereotype breaking things. Then I realized that she is insanely talented and has an absurd amount of potential on guitar. If there’s a song that shows that potential at its absolute best, it’s Negative Noise. I agree with what you said too about her. The people who say “who cares” about Diamond’s identity would rather not bring up about how this breaks molds. Metal and rock for decades has been that genre that defies societal norms, breaks with conformity and basically helps people realize that you don’t have to be what people expect you to be and Diamond might exemplify that perfectly.
