Transitioning from fossil towards sustainable feedstocks for the industrial sector is a key element of reaching global climate goals. Therefore, sufficient supply of sustainable carbon feedstocks through upstream investments in the value chain are fundamental.
A European policy process to create a market for sustainable carbon feedstocks has been recently started in order to include the topic in the agenda of the European Commission. In addition a complementary pathway on a global level is currently under design, i.e. a global partnership on sustainable carbon feedstocks.
This partnership is aimed to facilitate the transition to sustainable carbon feedstocks, contribute to leveling the playing field and create win-win conditions for suppliers and off-takers. Ideally, agreed principles regarding sustainable carbon feedstocks would accelerate upstream investments in the value chain.
Currently, multi- and bilateral dialogues are conducted to define the priorities for global collaboration on creating a market for sustainable feedstocks for industry, with the goal of ensuring an outcome that serves the mutual benefit of all participants. Priorities under discussion are regulation, financing and technology transfer, among other things.
This event includes a high-level panel discussion on the aforementioned priorities for designing a successful partnership, i.e. setting out a roadmap towards a global partnership on sustainable carbon feedstocks.
